rob16584 42
I wouldn't normally post things in here relating to the VA I fly with, BUT. One of our long serving pilots has been diagnosed with cancer and we are holding a big VATSIM event in 2 weeks time in support of him and his fight against this disease (details below). I cannot make the whole event but intend to depart DFW and divert along the way. It would be great if lots and lots of people joined in with this flight to help raise awareness about this terrible disease to support Jimmy in his fight against cancer... Jimmy Edwards (PAY6448), father of Pacific NY Hub Director Travis Edwards, has been an amazing part of APG for almost 2 years. Starting off at AFA/Dallas with Travis when he was a pilot there, he followed Travis to Pacific/Los Angeles when he became Chief Pilot. Later, he again followed Travis to New York when Travis took on the job as Hub Director. In his almost 2 years with APG, Jimmy has flown more than 4,000 hours and over 750 flights. In all that time, he has never flown online, preferring instead to enjoy the hobby we all love offline. Now Jimmy has been diagnosed with Cancer and Travis and Jimmy have become closer than they ever have been. Travis has wanted to find a way to honor his father through the hobby and the Virtual Airline that has been a very important part of both their lives. So, at Travis' suggestion, he will fly as co-pilot for Jimmy on his first online flights as we, the pilots of APG, "take to the skies to honor one of our own". We invite All APG pilots to join us for one or both legs as we follow Jimmy's career and fly from Dallas to Los Angeles and then on to New York on Saturday, April 17, 2010. We hope all available pilots of APG will take some time that Saturday to help honor one of our own and show him we support him in his battle. Information on the flight in honor of Jimmy is below. Please note in your FP Comments, "APG's Flight for Jimmy". Depart Dallas/Ft. Worth International Airport (KDFW) at 1300 EDT/1200 CDT/1000 PDT/1700Z Arrive Los Angeles International Airport (KLAX) approximately 1630 EDT/1530 CDT/1330 PDT/2030Z Depart Los Angeles International Airport (KLAX) approximately 1700 EDT/1600 CDT/1400 PDT/2100Z for the flight to Newark Liberty International Airport (KEWR). Dizzy 0
Jimmy and Travis are two of the greatest people I've got to know during my time at Pacific. I will be doing my best to fly with them.

rob16584 42
It is with great sadness that I report that Jimmy lost his battle with cancer earlier today, 21 May 2010. The response from the VA community for this flight was overwhelming and Jimmy and his family were touched by the ourpouring of support for him in his struggle. My thoughts and prayers go out to his family at this difficult time
hurricanemk1c 195
That's incredibly sad to hear. He's up there, probably with tears in his eyes as he looks down, and sees the response he's got
