Installing Add-on scenery into FSX with Win 7 OS

Recommended Posts

I've just reinstalled FSX on Windows 7 and when I try to add scenery via the scenery library (same procedure as in vista) it wont do it? I click 'OK' on the folder and I just keep going through the folders. I know that these files are set up correctly as I had them installed before.

Anyone any ideas?

Thanks

HI Rob,

I have had this problem with some of the scenery packs too.

Try copying the texture files into the texture folder in FSX and also, copy the scenery files int the scenery folder in FSX. See if that works. It did for me.

I know it means having the duplicate files on the same machine but at least they worked. (for me at least)

Hope this helps....if you haven't already tried this.

Regards and good luck.

Thank you very much for a really useful tutorial. I have posted a reference to it on the FS DreamTeam website to help others who have struggled like me.

Before I found this site I was going nowhere fast and have finished up with a message "Scenery.cfg file error. Remote scenery directory() in scenery not found. Click OK to continue." This appears whilst FSX is loading. Having clicked OK FSX runs perfectly but the message is becoming annoying.

Can someone please kindly tell me how the !"

:hat: Tregarth.

You really need to look at your scenery.cfg file in Notepad, it looks as though the file is pointing the sim to a non-existent folder. You would really need to start at the highest number scenery level and check back trough the entries that all the locations exist. When you find the culprit you can delete the entry. (Make back up first :winka: )

As for posting sceenshots, you need to host the shot on a remote server such as Photobucket and link to them using the tag.

Cheers

Dear Mutley,

I appreciate both your reply and the it's promptness.

Is there a short cut? I have scenery files which start at 001 and go up to 1107, after which they are named. I had expected to see some files modified in June 2010 and start looking at those. But they are all modified on 31/10/09. :whis: :gtfl:

Help.

Tregarth

Hi There,

I am a little bit confused, are we talking about the scenery.cfg file here?

If so, yes you are right, the file itself is date stamped but the contents are not.

Does the error message refer more specifically to a scenery area? if not, it may be because the area number is higher then 1000 and it cannot display it.

If it is a recent problem and was caused by bad programming when scenery installed and updated the file the I would guess the area number would be high which is why I suggested to work from the highest number down.

As you have so many entries I would suggest you copy and paste the contents into Excel spreadsheet or a freeware equivalent and sort the entries by folder and see if anything looks dodgy?

Cheers

Hi Tregarth,

I had planned to go to the F1 show at Shoreham on Saturday and RIAT on Sunday but the F1 show has been cancelled now on the Saturday due to operational reasons so I doubt whether I will go on Sunday but I will have a "Mutleys" tee shirt on if I do make it :clapping:

I might be able to help further if you can email me your scenery.cfg file, I may be able to spot a problem but no guarantees!

Cheers,

Joe

If anyone is wondering the outcome of Tregarth's problem we found his scenery.cfg file had probably been corrupted by a previous installation and the path to his addon scenery folder was missing from area 115.

This is in the scenery file located C:ProgramDataMicrosoftFSXScenery.cfg

Before

[Area.115]

Title=Addon Scenery

Layer=115

Active=TRUE

Required=FALSE

After

[Area.115]

Title=Addon Scenery

Local=Addon Scenery

Layer=115

Active=TRUE

Required=FALSE

The job's a good 'un and Tregarth has no more error messages :thum:

Cheers
