mutley 4,498
Hi Gang,I just reached Jomsom in time, Remington was starting to make the natives restless with his tales of derring-do in the war. I think it was the Dr Pepper going to his head at this high altitude Anyhew, the baton was here, I had word that the Nepalese were very impressed at our challenge and depending on my flight, were ready to release Dai and make for the hills. (Not your place Richard! )Flight plans filed and weather checked, We should be ok today. So Baton safely in pocket we were ready to go, after Remington's accounts of the Challenge so far we had a crowd to see us off!Our aircraft today is the Flight1 / AlphaSim BN-2B Islander. Starting the starboard engine here, CLEAR PROP.Taxiing our to the active, we are flying at our maximum today.Straight out in a southerly direction as we won't make it over the mountains Take off was rather sooner than expected, Just me and the Baton. She is not climbing at a particularly fast rate, we just have to be patient.......and point her down the valleys! Now heading towards the open plainsThe weather is set to pretty much like this all way, thanks Active Sky I must get Sharon to clean this one soon. Now flying east with the Himalayas to our left.To my surprise, the land was pretty flat.Missed my turn north A quick orbit will sort it Now nearing the end we just have to follow this valleyWe found a video camera at the rear so please enjoy the landing courtesy of YouTube Here endeth the ToTWC, over to you Dai Cheers
hurricanemk1c 195
Great leg to free Dai! The approach was rocky! The only thing I think, for me, is wrong is that I can't hear the engines in the vid!
SEATAC 400
That was great! Loved the video Joe. Nice plane and a nice flight. How does freedom taste Dai?
needles 1,013
OMG! Excellent flight Joe. The vid' made it for me. Poor Dai! Has he lost weight since his capture? All those lentils and rice can't be good for you eh. What did you use to make the video Joe? I might try that next time. Glad you're back in the hot seat and glad Dai can resume where he left off. Go Baton!
remingtonbox 18
Awesome flight! As far as tales from the war, I was hardly even getting started... those little kids were gathering around like I was a foreigner or something haha So when is the next leg going to be posted for bids? That was damn fun... I cannot wait to do it again.
ddavid 149
Nice work, Guys - and a big Thank You to The Boss! My captors - well, distant relatives, almost, now! - are very pleased that you've finished the Himalaya Challenge and, as you noticed in Joe's video, have released me - Sch-yeah! Now for some decent grub - mind you, I was starting to get used to the Yak's milk ice cream - NOT!..... :bday: Right now, I'm negotiating my flight from Lukla - some local carrier with a maniac for a pilot (No change there, then! - Ed) and will post the next Leg, hopefully, before Tuesday p.m. Hope that's O.K.? And Thanks Again! Cheers - Dai.
mutley 4,498
Thanks for the comments chaps  Kieran, I agree, the music is a bit loud, I set the sim audio track to half volume, too late now, I'm not saving Dai again!! :bday: Brian, I use Sony Vegas 9, I have had it in previous versions for years so quite comfy with it. I do have an older version of Adobe Premier but it's too fussy to me. Remington, when Dai has made the final flight of sector two I will be mailing pilots the next section's flights in plenty of time for the bidding. Finally Dai, I noticed there was a distinct air of Yak on the apron, it even overpowered the aviation fuel! Good luck with your onward trip, Tuesday is fine, I have it down for a deadline of Friday (and we have to finalise sector 3 yet but don't tell anyone!) Cheers Joe

ddavid 149
Finally Dai, I noticed there was a distinct air of Yak on the apron, it even overpowered the aviation fuel! Good luck with your onward trip, Tuesday is fine, I have it down for a deadline of Friday (and we have to finalise sector 3 yet but don't tell anyone!) Cheers Joe I'll post the first part tonight (Tuesday) and complete the Leg to Mandalay (soft humming, off - no, not the smell of Yak milk!) by Friday, then, if that suits you and Rob? Re-played the vid - how many landing attempts did you have to make?!? I'm still smarting from the pancake I made with the Caravan when I arrived here before being 'taken into care' by the Nepalese (My, don't they have cold hands?!? brrrrr...). Cheers - Dai. :bday:
stu7708 244
Great to see you out and about again Dai.. Feel a bit bad for not beeing able to help in setting you free, but those that stepped up to the challange did a great job.. @Mut: Loved the video.. are you using FRAPS for recording, or some other application? mutley 4,498
Just the one landing Dai! I used FS Recorder and recorded the approach and landing then played it back many times to record all the angles on the video. The only trouble with that is the mixture and fuel setting shows incorrectly (Probably some other things too), I had the mixture right down because of the altitude, it would have flooded otherwise. I landed with abound a third of fuel. The video was recorded with FRAPS, I am still waiting for something more FPS friendly to appear if anyone has any suggestions? I also used EZDOK camera which allows you to pan around and adds the BUMP to the landing, I had it set up to over-exaggerate slightly!! Cheers
