Lidman 0
Remember me? I consulted you guys way back in April on the subject of PC spec. It has taken longer than planned to get my new PC set-up. Also had to make some changes. Here it is: Intel Core 2 Duo E6700(2x2.66Hz) 1066MHz. 4096MB CORSAIR XMS2 800MHz, 2x(2GB), 5-5-5-12. ASUS P5W DH Deluxe. 768MB GeForce 8800GTX, PCI Express. Antec Nine Hundred Gamers ATX case. Enermax Galaxy 850w PSU. Zalman CPU, S775 cooler with auto fan control. 320GB Western Digital Hard Drive. Windows XP Professional SP2. Have istalled FSX, SP1 and FS9 with add-ons. Have perfectly acceptable performance in FSX. Most remarkable is the PC silence. Will have to keep an eye now on any dust build up. John
mutley 4,498
Hi John, Thanks for the update, that's a pretty impressive line up. I have a lower spec than you (E6600 with 7900GTX) and both sims are a pleasure to use. I recently reinstalled all my software and XP Pro, I did try Vista 64 and 32 but I had a few issues and realised a lot of my old XP 32 bit software would need a Vista version if I wanted to carry on using them. So don't be a stranger and let us know how you get on  Cheers
hello_basil 0
You should of waited till July 22nd, and bought an E6850 for the same price! My damn 8600GT set is delayed, considering I specifically ordered it for Today when I'm not Busy! :sadblinky: :sadblinky: :sadblinky:
Lidman 0
I also initially aimed for 64 bits and came to the same decision as you Mutley. It seems a lot of work needs doing on software to meet 64 bit requirements. Fair comment hello_basil. MartinW first suggested I should wait for E6850. but then I found may be I should upgrade something else and wait again and so on. We live in high tech development era and there is always better and possibly cheaper things on the horizon. I do not play other games so the set-up I now have satisfies my present needs. MartinW 0
We live in high tech development era and there is always better and possibly cheaper things on the horizon. Vert true indeed! Lots of people fall into that trap, they wait and wait, knowing that the next big hardware item is on the horizon. As you say, it doesn't matter when you buy, there will always be cheaper and better in no time at all. You are happy with your system and that’s the important thing. Don't forget, with AiSuite you can overclock to 3.3 with the E6700 with ease. Temps hardly rise and a nice boost in performance. No need to mess with the BIOS at all using AiSuite. If you’re not competent with such things or a bit scared then don't touch, even with AiSuite. To be honest it's easy though! Tip: Download all of the new software from Asus, BIOS, AiProbe, AiSuite, Intel chipset drivers, etc. The BIOS is highly recomended if you are using the default, there are important changes to the way QFan functions etc.
