Leg 45: Jamaica MKJP - San Juan TJSJ *updated with shots*

Recommended Posts

Hi all,

Just starting the topic for this one. FS ATC is giving a bit of trouble so I need to do a quick repair install of FS9. Shots should be up tonight or tomorrow. In the meantime, there's plenty of good bars in and around the airport, have fun.

Guys,

FS9 fixing took a bit longer than I'd thought. Stupid ATC failures :poster_oops: However, all is back to normal now. Because I can't seem to get the hang of the classic INS system either, I am currently looking for an alternative aircraft to transport the baton with.

Sorry about the extra delay.

Dave

Right, here we go.

After failing to get to grips with the 737's INS system, I decided that we might need something a little...sleeker. And so, ladies and gents, I give you...the ERJ-135 Legacy. Today's flight took us out of Kingston and pretty much straight accross the Caribbean to San Juan, Puerto Rico. The bar is stocked, the captain's flask full of fine Puerto Rican coffee, and the stewardess is as tasty as both. What more could you want?

On the stand. No limos today so the baton carrier had to slum it by walking accross the tarmac to the aircraft.

Taxiing out. Air Jamaica dosen't seem to be included with T2005, because apart from the departed AA 737 and a couple of DHL freighters, Kingston is deserted.

fsscr047.jpg

Lining the Legacy up. The weather has cleared up nicely, and the winds are calm. Here we go!

fsscr048.jpg

Rotate. I nearly hit the tail off the runway, rotation needs to be slow in this aircraft.

fsscr049.jpg

Sun, sea, and massive scary mountain that made me nervous on the initial climbout.

fsscr050.jpg

Evidently the baton carrier has ordered another rum.

fsscr051.jpg

Almost at our top of climb now. I love Wilco's reflection effect off the glass displays. It's in the 737 too.

fsscr052.jpg

Our flightplan took us south of Haiti and the Dominican Republic, seen in the distance. I guess they like to keep the aircraft away from the beaches.

fsscr053.jpg

Question of the day: is there any way to stop my ground textures going like this after a few squares? I have TEXTURE_BANDWIDTH_MULT set at 400 but the problem persists. I hate it.

fsscr060.jpg

There's nothing quite like flying in the Caribbean/

fsscr062.jpg

The Embraer RJs don't have autothrottle, so their throttles need a lot of attention. They aren't too bad once you find just the right position though. This one had us cruising steadily at .78 Mach. Long-range cruise can also be set in the FMC, which gives a longer range by throttling them back to .65 Mach.

fsscr064.jpg

As we near the top of descent the light starts to fade, staining the clouds red.

fsscr065.jpg

By the time we're getting our approach clearance, we are being treated to a beautiful sunset.

fsscr066.jpg

I had planned to show off my nice high-resolution ground textures for the whole of Puerto Rico, but as it happened it was too dark. That's for another post I guess.

fsscr067.jpg

It was windy but I managed the manual landing OK. The Embraer handles rather well.

fsscr068.jpg

We have loads of runway so I let the reversers to the work until I disengage them at 60kts and step on the brakes.

fsscr069.jpg

Not many airports have shrubs between the runway and taxiway. San Juan does. I like it.

fsscr070.jpg

Pulling some strings with airport authorities got us a spot at the terminal with the big boys. A DHL DC8 waits on our right, and on our left is a Dash 8 going to Nassau.

fsscr071.jpg

There we go. Sorry about the long delay again - but FS9 seems to be mostly fixed now, except for some addons I need to reinstall and trying to get the blurry ground textures sorted out! Hope you enjoyed.

Dave :-)
