Anyone Bought the Codemasters F1 2010 Console Game ?

It's a shame that - for some bizarre reason - the replays don't allow you to flick between the different cars... could do some stonking videos and screenies then.

Why you can't, noone seems to know or understand. It's been regular fare in driving games for years now. Shame really.

I think you are right when it comes to the graphics Singapore did look awesome, the graphics are absolutely mind blowing, but once again the fact that you mentioned the lack of replay function is what I mean. I think the fact that the lack of being unable to use a mouse in the menus says console game to me. I think that's the great thing about FSX is not only it's graphical ability but the functions are never ending and that is similar to ArmA 2 and the never ending ability to move the game forward with some of the most realistic warfare graphics and game play. I am not even sure if F1 2010 will be open to third party developing.

I hope it will. I know that FOV and lighting maps have already been modded - they're brightened up most of th tracks and improved shadowing areas in the pit straights.

I think most of the config files are XML based, so it's pretty much open to tinkering with.

You need to take a look at all the mods available for it now.

How's this for a camera angle:

Hmmm... try doing a whole lap of Monaco like that.

The best two sites seem to be:

Just beware though, that at the moment, some of the mods appear to be causing problems wit the new SP 1.01. Seems to be causing probs with the saving function.

I'm just 'lurking' at the moment until I'm happy they're all stable.

Best one's for me are 'raising the cockpit camera height' (which is far too low), and getting rid of the yellow-ish bloom lighting which also blighted Grid. The latter should improve FPS too.

Amazing thing about it, is that I'm at Medium/High Settings with 8x AA, vert synched at 30 fps, even with my rubbish PC. But looks tonnes better than the 360 version. Add in the mods and it'll be like a different game.

Word to the wise though Muts... do your research, as some are a little 'dodgy' and can cause problems - the old "fix one thing and break another" syndrome - and some appear to have problems with the new patch: Saving games especially.

I currently have around 8 or 9 files in my "Mods" folder, but have not yet installed any. I'm still learning about them.

Main problem is that a mod will affect one file - like the cameras.xml for a certain car. But, another mod, changes the SAME file - so effectively over-writes the existing one !

Clearly, each car has it's own camera.xml file, as do the tracks... for details and LOD etc. So, ideally, you need all the camera mods (for example) in the ONE file... a 'combined mod' as it were.

One particular one I am watching at the moment, has a slightly raised cokpit view, extra T and wing cameras, a tilting head, and camera shake. As you will see if you start researching, it is clear that some modders are getting together to put all their mods into the one file.

I'm sure you know what I'm getting at !

So, bottom line is, I'm decrypting the default xml files and comparing them to some of the modded versions, so I can "learn" how it's done".

Then, I'll probably take the "best" multi-modded xml for cameras or the tracks etc., and then tweak them myself, or even "merge" my fave modds into one file myself.

I'm sure you understand XML more than I do, so you'll have no problem. For me it will be a laborious process of detective work, trial and error and lots of rebooting!

Equally though, as it's simply a case of swapping out xml files to try them out, it's easy enough to test them and simply swap back.

Okay, here's an update.

The Camera mods : look for "... Cams By lOulOu206 ..." is fantastic. There are too many views to toggle through however. There are about 12 in all ! I tried about 4 of these, but his is definitely the best in that you will certianly find the views that you want.

The idea is that you edit out the views you don't want. This may differ from car to car though, as they all look a little different. So, I'm working on that now, as I only really want around 4 or 5 views for cycling. The last T cam and the shoulder view are simply stunning.

The Frustraion patch is an absolute must - you can ram the cr@p out of anyone and get away with it !!! But, you still can't cut corners. But you will also need the modded FLOW.bin file to allow you to use autosave after using a modded databse file.

The flow.bin file gos in the F1/system folder.

I am now going to have a look at the various colouration/lighting/blur mods. There are lots of them, so it may be a laborious process.
