jankees 917
Here's a few shots of a simple repaint (I mainly used the default textures) for the A2A spitfire, in the colors of 'Krakatau' which flew with No.303 'Warszawski' Polish Sqn from RAF Northolt in 1941. The name 'Krakatau' ( a volcano in Indonesia) stems from the fact that this was a presentation aircraft, payed for by the people of the Dutch East Indies. About 40 Spitfires flew with the RAF with names of the villages or groups who collected the money for these Spits. So nothing special paintwise, but I liked the strangeness of it all, a RAF spitfire, payed for by an island in the Dutch East Indies and flown by a Polish pilot. The aircraft failed to return form a mission in august 1941, while being flown by Sgt Geoffrey Chapman of No.452 RAAF Sqn...

jankees 917
It turns out that one of the "Dutch East Indies' Spitfires not only survived the war, but even survived to this day. P8322 'Soebang' served with no.222 Sqn first, and later with the RCAF, and can be seen today in the Canadian War Museum in Ottowa.

jankees 917
I have a question for you guys. Have a look at these, almost identical, shots (preferably in full-size): I have been playing a bit with the base textures, and wonder if it's worth it.. the pics show my first paint for the Spit, and one I'm playing with at the moment. Apart from the differences in registration (and the name and orange triangle), which one looks better do you think? Why? Or do you see no difference?

Beautiful and controlled weathering. :001_th_smiles89:
