stu7708 244
It aims to be a freeware replacement for TrackIR that uses a basic webcam with face tracking instead of the TrackIR head-"mounted" IR tracker... More info here. Might give this a shot, even if support for FSX and FS9 is so far only in the Beta stage.
mutley 4,498
This is new to me Micke, I already have TrackIR but would be interested to hear if it is any good. Cheers, Joe
stu7708 244
I'll give it a try and see if I can get it to work. But I'll wait until I'm done with the Pacific Fjords Review.
ddavid 149
Hi Micke, did you get anywhere with this? The suspense is killing me! Cheers - Dai.
stu7708 244
Didn't get it to work at all Dai. There was some issue with the installer of the API that caused big issues with newer processors as far as I could gather... But considering it's been a year since I tried it there might be some updates to try...
rob16584 42
Would be good to know if it works with FSX. I look a right fool sat here indoors with a baseball hat on to use TrackIR
stu7708 244
The version I downloaded did have support for FSX but I think it was on beta-stage then. Problem is I can't even get it to run on it's own. They claim that the next version will solve the issues with the i-series processors.
Ronster 0
To sum it up in simple terms this Free piece of software is quite simply stunning. It allows complete and total 6 degrees of freedom head tracking with NO other equipment other than a simple webcam - and mine is a very simple and cheepy webcam..... Just install the software and link it to your webcam and use the profiles to help you configure things to your liking and run your favourite sim. The app is congirable during play so you can constantly refine the settings to get the best views possible and then save the profile out to a specific name. I was in the process of building a Freetrack ir light headset as I couldn't afford TrackIR, but when I found this I dropped the idea - although Facetrack is compatible with Freetrack sims such as Arma2 etc. This saves tons of cash over other commercial products like TrackIR so - give it a try and you wont be disappointed! allardjd 1,853
Rob, I use the TrackIR Pro-clip, an accessory that clamps around the left bow of a headset. It contains three active IR LEDs which the camera tracks instead of reflections of its own internal LED, permitting you to get rid of the reflectorized hat clip. It works very well and only requires wearing a headset instead of a baseball hat. I only wear baseball hats to airshows, not while flying. John
mutley 4,498
Hi Ron, Welcome to the forums! It's good to see some first-hand feedback!
stu7708 244
I downloaded the latest Beta (ver 1.6) two nights ago, and got it working, but there's still some tweaking to get it working proper in FSX With the default settings it was very hard to get it to hold still when trying to fiddle with the instruments. But that will have to wait until I've reinstalled my computer I think. Would it be possible to get a copy of your profile for FSX Ron?
allardjd 1,853
I have that same issue with TrackIR 5 - Things I need to mouse frequently I put in pop-ups and drag to the second monitor, where they don't move with head movement. John
stu7708 244
Just took a quick peek in the manual. It looks like you can set a keyboard shortcut to toggle the tracker on and off to freeze movement... I guess that will find it's way to a button on the joystick rather quickly But I still need to tweak the settings, because the movement was pretty jerky... might be due to the rather poor light in the office at the moment too. Still only have a temporary lamp set up in there after the move from the apartment.
