mutley 4,498
it is LCX one side and XLC on the other? I just know I am going to look stupid after that comment!
hurricanemk1c 195
Croghan Chaser has the same Joe - it was a standard so that the two letters/numbers were always at the front (at least that's my explaination!) Great repaints Jankees!
jankees 917
Kieran is right, the squadron code (the two letter or letter/number combination, LC in this case) is always in front of the roundel, the individual letter (X here) behind it. This was due to the fact that the 8th Air Force took over the british system of aircraft registrations. The 9th AF used it as well, but elswhere, thing were often different. Look at all my Iwo Jima Mustangs for instance, they just had numbers, up to 650. Meanwhile, an update on Maggie:

brett 2,316
Those repaints are a amazing. The paint chips, stains, colors and wear are superb. I'm not up on the history of these aircraft but I'm sure you have them spot on. If you don't mind me saying, you are truley talented.
jankees 917
Thank you Brett! I forgot to mention the history of this aircraft: Lt "Wild" Bill Crump of the 360th FS/ 356th FG was known to give his pet coyote 'Jeep' rides in his P-47. He had found the coyote as a young pup while training in Nebraska and adopted it, naming it Jeep. Jeep was taken on board while flying and got accustomed to it. Bill managed to smuggle it to England and it seems Jeep even flew 5 operational missions. Unfortunately, Jeep was run over by a truck, but was immortalised on the side of Bill's P-51 'Jackie', named after his sweetheart. More on Bill Crump and Jeep here: http://wildbillcrump.com/ the real thing: and the other side:

jankees 917
I did this paint for the A2A version, but thought it would look good on the warbirdsim too:
mutley 4,498
I agree, it looks good, very distinctive.
jankees 917
It's been a while since I painted the WBS P-51, but after a request I thought I might do one more: P-51D-5-NA 44-13583 C5-L "Shoo Shoo Baby", as flown by Lt. John Howell, of the 364th FS, 357th FG. and P-51D 44-73734 Little Rebel, as flown by USAAF Lt. Paul M. Crawford of the 14th AF,311th FG,529th FS, Xian, China in 1945. brett 2,316
Nicely painted JK, you are building quite a collection on the P51.
dodgy-alan 1,587
with the George Lucas Rad tails movie soon to be released, I thought I'd make a small contribution too.. and the trailer to the movie: http://youtu.be/BpA6TC0T_Lw That's a great film, really well done if a bit contrived in places. The only film i've ever seen where the ME262 makes an appearance. I loved it.
dodgy-alan 1,587
Any chance of this one? It's our local bird! http://www.boultbeeflightacademy.co.uk/#!mustang-flights/c19sj
