Sunderland 0 : Southampton 1

Recommended Posts

A series of shots, I took off from Southampton Water headed over Portsmouth turned back to Soton via Lee on the Solent.

This is the FSC Sunderland. Presently on sale at £19.99, £5.00 off it's £24.99 price tag, in my opinion it should be freeware, the externals are good (But not brilliant), the VC and documentation are awful.

The VC is the big let down, all the round knobs and switches are more like hexadecagons, no tool tips and no explanations in the manual.

The gauges were quite good as were the FPS. There wa no bump-mapping and specular on the exterior textures that I could determine.

Are we bothering with a review, Joe? :whis:

Thanks for the screenshots - looks good externally. BTW, do the depth charges drop?!?

Cheers - Dai.

That was the review Dai!

I tried all my known combinations of key-presses and all I got to work is Door1 (Front port door and nose gunner retract) and Door 2 which adds a frame with wheels on, so no depth charges.

As the manual had no section on animations I guess that's all there is?

you say 'looks good externally'??

I have seen smaller panel lines in brick walls...

Most shots are from too far away, but it looks a bit like an igloo, big white block loosely stacked together...

Hi JK,

I tried to use my words carefully!

the externals are good (But not brilliant)

A closer shot would really not look that good but if you like I can post a couple of close ups of different liveries?

A terrible way for them to treat a veteran like that - a noble aircraft that deserves better. Having had the opportunity to see one up close (converted for civilian use) the real thing is an awesome beast.

I was interested in this, as my mother worked on Sunderland production during the war. But I'd previously bought their Wellington (again an interest, since the airfield I occasionally fly from was a Wellington base, and I'd done a fair bit of research into its history), but I was severely disappointed with that both on the exterior finish - which looked like it had been done by a trainee Warhammer modeller, and completely missed the geodesic substructure - and the interior which was extremely simplistic and only worked if you didn't move your eyepoint (otherwise you'd start to see all the holes and gaps ). Well, actually, apart from the cockpit there wasn't an interior. I might have kept it if it had been freeware.

Sounds like a good thing I held off on this one.

We're not the only ones that aren't impressed by this offering from FCS. See here

Personally, I'm really disappointed - for 2 reasons:

1. I'd hoped that FCS would come up with something to rectify their questionable judgement on the Lancaster release, and

2. The Sunderland, next to the Lanc, is my favourite AC.

Still, as one guy said in Predator 2 - Sh*t happens...

Cheers - Dai.
