Motherboards and Hard Drives

Recommended Posts

Hello everyone. I was wondering, what are the most reliable and efficient hard drives and motherboards? Preferably pick a good ASUS motherboard. About the hard drives, wchih is better: Western Digital, or Kingston? I'm quite familiar with WD, but not "Your Majeston" (aka Kingston). I'm thinking the WD Black Caviar (no idea why they named it caviar) 1 TB is good; what is it's counterpart with Kingston hard drives? Finally, I have no knowledge of ASUS motherboards, just that they are pretty good; it would be much appreciated if you people out there could supply a short list of good ASUS boards.

Thanks!

Are you having issues with the P55-UD3 Aidan. I've got one and it works really good for me.

Or was that statement prehaps due to the fact that the i7 975 is only available as socket 1366.

As for harddrives I have been using the samsung spinpoint series for a while now, and they work out good for me. Silent and not to hot.

I agree with Tim, Seagate drives have never been terribly reliable for me.

If you have the cash, I would go for the largest SSD hard drives.

Having said that, a 240Gb SSD would set you back arount the £350 mark. Ah! I wish.

Dont get me started on my mobo. I get back from NZ - PC HDD collapsed. Get it back a week later, internet doesnt connect, guess what! My mobo has a faulty ethernet port, duh. SO they replaced it with a P55A-UD3 while mine went into reparis, and its still in my system.. :P Not going back to JW.com.au, cheap little buggers.

And yeah, I used the P55 and i7 975 as an example.

But a 320GB Hybrid drive will only set you back £75, and gets you 90% of the performance improvement of a pure SSD...

Only difficulty right now is finding anywhere with some in stock.
