A New Year and a New PC.

Recommended Posts

Hi and a Happy New Year to all you simmers.

Finally, after months of not having a working FSX PC, I finally got my new FSX rig up and running. I am still in the process of fully installing everything for FSX plus properly tweaking & testing it but I did manage to make a few shots to see what this new rig can do. The shots aren't that exciting and I did a fair few close ups for testing purposes. Besides, I feel very rusty after months of not flying nor taking any new screen shots. So please forgive my somewhat lower standards but in time I hope to scrape away the build up of rust ^_^ .

I shall list the PC specs and FSX configuration at the bottom of this post for those people interested, for now, on with the show:

Thank you for your time viewing these.

Tech Specs:

FSX & general games PC, i7 950 4.2Ghz, 6Gb DDR3 Mushkin Silverline, Asus Sabertooth x58, 2x Zotac GTX580, Revodrive x2 480Gb PCIe x4 for FSX, Mushkin Callisto Deluxe 240Gb O/S, 2x Samsung F4 2Tb, NZXT Phantom White, CM Silent Pro Gold 1000W, Win 7 64Bit Home.

FSX config:

Resolution 2560x1600x32 16:10 (screen shots resized to 1280x960), using Nick's Nchancer settings (http://www.simforums.com/forums/fsx-and-nhancer-settings-for-new-drivers-updated_topic36586.html), FSX Bloom & Lens Flare, Max Texture & Autogen, Water Highx2, No AI. With these settings I am getting @45-49 FPS according to FRAPS (when the view is static), with FSX Bloom off, it stays @60FPS (max Vsync).

FSX addons in screen shots:

FSX & Accel, REX2.0 Overdrive, ENB series mod (default), Flytampa TNCM, Coolsky's S80 Pro, McPhat TWA UHDT.

Thanks folks, I still have much work to do and plenty of testing but I am very happy with the results so far. Hopefully will have some more shots over the weekend.

Great Shots! Espically Shot #3 - What are the cloud settings and daytime theme?

Also thats one hell of a rig xD Our getting what?? 100FPS in those shots? haha.

Thanks, clouds is Cumulus 58, Cirrus 38 and Daytime theme is Over the Top. I wish I was getting 100fps, FSX is alas so CPU dependant that to get 100fps I think I will need a 8core CPU running at @6Ghz! Still on near max settings it is running pretty smoothly at @45-60fps (60 is max Vsync, no point in going higher)

Phew!

That's some setup Soya! :faint:

The shots are as good as ever, which of your sims/games shows the most improvement?

Cheers Joe, I still have much installing and testing to do, but so far, everything is showing a vast improvement. Hard to tell atm but I would say FSX is showing @40-50% improvement over my previous setup, with more addons being install, time will tell if the performance stays good. The biggest 'wow' factor though is running FSX on a higher resolution now. Previously I used 1920x1080 (1080p) on either my Dell 24'' monitor or more often, I used my Sony 40'' HDTV. Now I am using my new Dell 30'' monitor and the resolution is a stunning 2560x1600! What is even more amazing, I did some tests on this new PC, running FSX at 2560x1600 runs identical (if not a little faster) then 1920x1080! This really amazed me and I can tell you, running things (esp FSX) at this resolution is absolutely gobsmacking, the level of detail and the amount of pixels is just mind boggling. This should be a good year for my simming and screen shots :).

If your old rig is no longer up to the job can I have it :th_smiles73:

Brilliant shots as ever, the lightbloom is fantastic :icon_bowdown:

Thanks, alas, the reason I got a new PC is that I had some bad luck with my old FSX pc last year. Several things went wrong including several hardware components going faulty so I decided it was time to get a new one.
