NEW!! Flight Sim in Google Earth

Recommended Posts

.. One last post before I go on hols!

I discovered this today whilst looking for interesting places to visit on Jersey CI, (Don't ask how I strayed onto flight simulation subjects again!) She who must be obeyed must not know :mrhappy: You haven't seen me here, OK 001_whistle.gif

Anyhew, in the latest download of Google Earth you can go into a Flight Sim mode much better than described in our handy hints a year ago.

First off you need to download the new version here- http://earth.google.com/download-earth.html

Now this is an un-documented feature except here-

Click on image for latest info

So basically you click [Ctrl]+[Alt]+A to activate it for the first time, thereafter it is on the "Tools" menu.

Up pops this screen:

You can choose a F16 or an SR22, I would recommend the SR 22 so that the images pop into focus faster. You can choose from a pre-selected runway such as Heathrow or start from your present position.

You can control it with a joystick and other keyboard actions.

Here are a few photos taken tonight.

My village.

Then if you get bored, click the view menu and chose "Switch to sky"

... and you can get all starry eyed at the constellations above your present position!

It's quite a nice way to while away a couple of hours and it works anywhere on the globe!

Dosen't work in FS9 though  (or does it?...)

It's your lucky day Dave, it does! Not sure how good though?

http://sourceforge.net/projects/tileproxy

If anyone has problems getting GE Flight Sim to activate in Windows then you could try downloading This registry key Just download, unzip and double click. (Usual get out clause applies, back up your registry before trying this  )

Registry file includes this -

[HKEY_CURRENT_USERSoftwareGoogleGoogle Earth PlusFlightSim]

"IsEnabled"=dword:00000001

That's right Magic, but also Virtual Earth images too.

I have used it a few times before, here are a couple of previous posts with screenshots

It runs like a dog to start with but once you get the scenery cached it's much better. (So long as you have a huge hard drive!)

Cheers
