Lots of Flying...

Recommended Posts

I've been doing lots of flying, but most of it RC. With the P-47, Super Cub, Mustang, and my latest acquisition, the Spitfire.

The Spitfire has always been a favorite of mine, and getting one for under $100 almost ready to fly and needing only a receiver and battery was too good to pass up. I'm glad I didn't pass it up. She's a great plane that handles well and looks awesome flying over my neighborhood. The three-bladed prop makes a beautiful growl as she flies by. I put her through gentle rolls and loops and it is simply beautiful.

Here are a few snaps I took of her. She's sidelined right now with a broken port landing gear, but I have a replacement set coming from Holland that should arrive within the next two weeks. Then, she'll be back in the air!

I also repainted my Super Cub to turn it into a sort-of L-4 (WWII observation plane). She looks much better in green, IMHO,

Here's a shot of the Jug I am so very much enjoying flying. This plane really is the Queen of the Fleet.

Today, I was able to take out three of my planes and fly them for a total flying time of 3.3 hours!

The wind stopped and the air was dead still this afternoon so I took advantage of it by taking my three functional planes, parked them in the shade in the front yard, and flew them one after the other. I charged batteries while flying, and in the end, I got in 3.3 hours!

There was one stupid mishap that was not flying related: the strap for my transmitter came undone and the radio dropped onto the cowl of my P-47, cracking a small piece of it. I'm OCD enough to want to go to the LHS and pick up a replacement cowl. I will probably do that and replace the one on the plane so that I can try to fix up the old/current one and paint something new onto it. I want to rename the plane the Sherry Elisabeth and also have a checkerboard design on the nose. Maybe this will help me get started on that.

Otherwise, the Super Cub, the UMS Mustang, and the P-47D all flew outstanding! I practiced touch and go's with the Mustang and was doing landings on the sidewalk!

I hope to get more weather like this soon. It was a blast. It also showed me that I need more batteries. I think the LHS will be seeing me soon!
