stu7708 244
Took a trip up to ESSA on my way home from work on friday. The weather was nice and landings were done on runway 01L. This means that one of the lookout positions in close proximity to the airport is a perfect spot to take landing pictures. Standing on a small hill nearby you're just 300 meters to the right of the centerline, and about the same distance short of the start of the runway, and almost on the same altitude as the planes comming in to land. On any given day at this time the most common thing comming in to land are SAS and Norwegian 737:s and a few A320 variations. Not to exciting, so I decided on not heading home for my camera first. As I was standing there something odd looking came in to land. At first glance it looked like a Bae Avro RJ100, but I soon realized it only had two engines. I tried to get a shot with my cell phone, but the darned thing choose this moment freeze up on me and restart itself :001_th_smiles48: After some digging on what flight were arriving at ESSA at that time it turns out I failed to catch a Antonov An-148 in flight. Can't be a to common sight considering Wikipedia clamis that only 9 of them has been built so far, and one of those suffered a fatal crash during one of it's test flights after suffering a in-flight break-up of the plane.... allardjd 1,853
Interesting find - thanks for sharing, even without photos. Is it in regular service there now, or was it a divert destination? John
stu7708 244
Actually I just checked that. The airline, Aerosvit airlines runs a regular service from Kiev to Stockholm. Looking at the flight no. it looks like it varies what plane type they use for the flight. But this particular plane has been in Stockholm three times this month already, so with some luck I might be able to grab a shot of it sometime
