Here is how the day unfolded.

The cockpit picture is inside a Chinook, you wouldn't believe how small it is.

Yes I have hundreds more but will spare you! If you would like any of these full size mailed to you please PM me.

I dedicate these pictures to the memory of Brian Brown.

EDIT: After much thought I decided I would share probably one of the last pictures taken of Brian as he taxied past me for the dog fight. As you can see he was happy and this picture sums it up

Brilliant pictures Joe, fantastic quality. I recognise some of those from Newtownards, namely Team Guinot's Stearmans (noisy little buggers), the Yaks, and the BF109 with the red bird and God Help England slogan on the back.

Thanks for posting :-)

Those shots are blooming great :mrhappy:

Taken with your new camera? Its a real shame that the airshow was overshadowed by the loss of Brian. I see lots of aircraft that were present at Duxford, that Extra 300/Glider team was just crazy! The glider pilot must have some balls

joe, those photos are simply outstanding, consider yourself highly commended!!

as for the final pictures of the, now late, great Brian Brown, i cannot thank you enough for allowing s to have this posted. im sure that his loss will be felt throughout the aviation world, and my sincere thoughts go out to his family and close friends, again, thanks for sharing what will probably be a very treasured photo.

as for you dave, i'm afraid you need to go back to school....

....the BF109 with the red bird and God Help England slogan on the back...

Are you sure about that Dave??... Since there is, to my knowledge, not a single flight worthy BF109 in the world, clearly you mean to say its a Messerschmitt BF108, ...of which there are plenty flight worthy variants around. The BF108 was the BF109's little (and very similar looking) brother, and was nicknamed the "Taifun", as seen below:

Compared to the BF109 image below, you can see it is very easy to make the mistake, and many do!....

What with the much larger (two seater) cockpit of the BF108 with room for passengers, the different nose shape, and its two bladed propeller, its not a hard mistake to make at all. Indeed, the BF108 actually played the role of BF109s in WW2 movies such as "633 Squadron" and "Von Ryans Express"...

Simi,

Dave's right! Look again at the ground shot of the Messerchmitt with the all red rudder and red numeral 1 on the side of the fuselage. That's no Taifun. It may be a replica or a post-war Spanish variant, but it's a 109, beyond a doubt.

Mutley,

Amazing photos, and it looks like it was a superb air show. I could almost hear the sound and smell the smoke. From the smoke trails, it appears the glider did a hammerhead stall, or even a tailslide? I don't think I've ever seen that done in a sailplane. Everything looks great.

It's a pity about the crash and the loss of a man's life. I think you handled it very well.

Dave, Simi,

I'm not up on on my "BF's" but they did advertise 108's & 109's http://www.shorehamairshow.com/displays/air.html

Thanks for the reassurance in posting the shot of Brian.

John, the glider pilot for me was one of the highlights, he was towed up by the Extra and whilst still unattached was performing stunts you just shouldn't do in a glider. He was then released at 8000 ft and spun, stalled and tail slid all over the place and then just dropped it on the grass at the feet of the commentator. His name is Guy Westgate and he is a 747 captain.

Cheers

John, it seems you are correct... Dave, my apologies!!

I've come down with 'man flu' (hope its not yours Dave!! :mrhappy:) and my poor eyes must have missed that one. Its certainly going to be a replica BF109 however, as i've checked a few places i know of and all say that there are no originally manufactured 109's left flying. All those at seen at air-shows are replicas, or very good Spanish copies... in this case its a privately made replica - a fantastic achievement since it just looks awesome! well, you learn something new everyday.

Its great to see Brian looking so happy, what an amazing picture to have taken. Personally I would send it over to the likes of the BBC, so they can use this picture when referring to him instead of those blooming awful crash pictures

Guys,

Just to let you know I have sent the last two pictures to the show organisers in case they may want to forward them on to Brian's family along with our condolences.

If you would like to add any comments or your own words of condolence then add them to this post and I will forward them on too.

Thank you
