ddavid 149
Hey, Dodge - that's a coincidence! I'm currently half-way through one of Ralph Connell's African Tours with the Hunting Clan African Airways DC-3. Here we are waiting for clearance at Lusaka - by golly it's hot: If you've time, let us know more details on the Merchantman - and thanks for sharing! Ciao - Dai.

Great pic of the DC-3 Dai, have you got the Africa 1960s scenery file, its a freeware add on on flightsim .com and is really good. The Merchantman was a cargo conversion of the Vanguard airliner. BEA were the first to start using the aircraft after they began withdrawing them from Passenger ops. They were big aircraft and very efficient, the Rolls Royce Tyne engines gave the aircraft a high top speed and it could carry a big load, The last one in service is now at the Brooklands museum. Have a look at this video to see how it got there! the Landing is awesome, especially when you see what happened as it touched down!!
MarkJones 0
Nice shots but why use a VC10 panel?
dodgy-alan 1,587
Nice shots but why use a VC10 panel? The one that came with the model didnt work correctly, The VC10 panel and that of the vanguard were very similar in real life so used the VC-10 panel, Not as strange as you may think as the VC-10 was originally to be called the Vanjet! but the name was changed during developement, The Vanguard was in fact the VC-9. If you look at the nose of both aircraft you will see that they are very similar in profile. A lot of Vanguard tech found its way onto the 10.
