Here're some shots of my new helo/plane, courtesy of Mutley's Hanger's August screenshot contest - the Augusta/Bell Tilt Rotor.

Here's the VC. The aircraft is not a procedural trainer, and is aimed at the casual simmer, but the VC looks good nonetheless.

And there's a minigun in the military variant.

And missiles! 'Cause there's no such thing as too much firepower. :biggrin:

Despite the fact that the Tilt Rotor is not the most intimidating of aircraft, the military version does manage to look good and scary.

This is the executive variant.

I've just taken off using the VTOL system and am gathering speed to transition to airplane mode. And it's easy. You'd think the Tilt Rotor concept would be complex and tricky to fly, but it's effortless. The gear is very well detailed and watching it retract reminds of a Mirage F1.

The aircraft is also quite nimble (I rolled it twice, no problems) and handles beautifully, especially considering the all that mass on the ends of the wings.

Slowing down to prepare for landing. This is when I realized that this aircraft is its own animal. You can't think of it as an helo, or a fixed wing aircraft, as in this phase of flight it flies like neither. The nacelles do most of the work, so very little input is needed; just some input to keep the nose up.

The transition to VTOL can be abrupt, as you really do get the sense that you're transitioning from on flight model to another, but this is an FSX issue, I'm sure. It doesn't detract from the fun, though.

In VTOL mode, though, it flies much, much easier than a normal helo. All you have to do is watch the forward movement, because it does pick up forward speed very quickly.

The only thing that takes getting used to is how low the aircraft is, and how low you sit in it, and since it's so easy to fly, I was never quite sure whether I was on the ground yet or not. But, deadzone and all, I managed to land without breaking anything.

Now this is the sort of thing that makes concentrating on flying difficult. :th_smiles73: Oh, and in case you were wondering, I was referring to the glass of wine! :biggrin:

Superb report Marcel, she certainly looks to be a handful but easier to fly than expected.

Mmm, now that people mention it, I reckon that that tight skirt, those high-heels and your average, narrow air-stairs may not go all that well together....
