  1. 1. If Mutley's Hangar were to organise a group flight, which would be the best network for you?

Just to provide some novice input :yesa:

I would have to pick FSX Multiplayer. I wouldn't mind being shown the ropes on VATSIM at some point but my procedural knowledge and flight protocols just wouldn't be up to it at present.

From my limited experience over the last two weeks :wootmesalia: we've tried a couple of different methods

1. One of us hosting and the others joining - with this we have had limited success, sometimes we all connect other times not

2. Joining a hosted dedicated public server - this can present problems when not knowing server rules and obviously then wouldn't be restricted to Mutleys

3. Joining a game using FSHost - I put FSHost on the Team Element gaming server and we joined it using FSHost on our machines. This can be accessed through FSX. We also used the TS3 server to meet up and chat before and during the flights

Apologies if you are aware of all this. I'm not sure what resources you have available Rob as a dedicated controlled FSX server would probably be best if one is available. If not then the last method meant we flew where and how we wanted and we had no problems connecting. Just had to agree where we were starting and set time of day, after that what you see inflight is determined by your scenery and weather.

I must emphasise I'm completely new to this. The other thing is if you don't fly default aircraft you must have everyone's aircraft in your own hangar for you to see the aircraft type. Hence I flew Just Flight Hurricanes wit Rob and Sam and wit Graham A2A p-47's becasue we both had that aircraft.

PS I voted FSX Multiplayer because I don't know where FSHost fits.

PSS I would give VATSIM a go but only if someone will spend some time talking me through the basics.

Mutley's would benefit from a TS3 server, just somewhere nice and friendly to chat. The Team Element TS can be accessed off the website, if anyone wants to use it feel free. It's not a Flight Sim site but you may well find myself, Graham or Sam on there. Not always flying but happy to chat just click the link on the right side of the website after installing Teamspeak 3 just pick the right client

My first choice would be FSX Multiplyer, but if quite a few people were flying you would deffinetly need a dedicated server, other wise it would be like a slideshow (lag)!

I did notice when I was doing some carrier ops last night, that in the "Bush Flying" Section of multiplayer, ORBX had a dedicated server set up called "ORBX PNW Bowerman Airport", I wonder if we could try and find out how they made a dedicated server?

My second choice would be FS Host

Then Vatsim

I would highly recommend Teamspeak 3 though as it is so easy to use, and its an excellent place to meet new people, and fly together etc. (See Sabres link above for more info)

I look forward to flying with everyone! :pilotic:

Thanks all, especially Rob for organiseing it!

Sam :winka:

I voted for FSX.

Main reason is because it gives you an option to share a plane with you mate if you want to, (I jumped in to sabre's hurricane the other night to see if it would work) I would think that this would be great fun if you are flying a two seater of bigger aircraft as one person can play co-pilot (you both need the same plane installed in your hanger to get it to work though!).

Down side of doing FSX is that you really need to have a server running it as trying to host a game from your own PC is a bit of a pain at times, although it's great if you can make the connection.

Cheer's...Graham...

Joe, you ought to pop over to the CIX VFR Club http://www.cixvfrclub.org.uk/ - they'll get you sorted out wrt VATSIM. They can offer one to one training via shared cockpit and teamspeak, which can get you up to Vatsim's P1 standard (not much harder than take off, turn, straight & level, land, plus a few questions & answers), or their own 'virtual PPL'. Training is out of Shoreham, Biggin Hill & Gloucester, all of which regularly have ATC online, and are of course pretty much home turf for you.

They also have a members bar which is very nearly up to Hangar standards (I say that the other way around when I have my CIX Events Manager hat on... :th_smiles73: )
