The red barron 41
HI, A story of a recent trip to AMS. First off I know I haven't been on the hangar in a long time but I have been busy with School work as well as doing stuff with the Air Cadets (5F Sqn) however me and my home built PC are still here and going strong. As an early birthday present I flew on October 24th to Amsterdam with Easy Jet, and well I took some pictures and below are a selection as well as a small trip report like I did when I went to Orlando but not as long as that one. Here is the Orlando report: http://forum.mutleys...orida-and-back/ So with out further a due here we go! oh and AMS is Schipol airport, for those who don't know. For this trip it was me and my mum who were on the flight as she didn't like the idea of me roaming around the viewing balcony above the terminal at AMS for a few hours so she made me book 2 tickets. Getting up at 5:30Am is unpleasant, so don't do it if you have to, but I did so make a mental note now. We were booked on the 9:20 Luton - Amsterdam flight, and only just made it because we had to drive from J15 of the M1 to J10 and that meant going through the dreaded J13-J10 roadworks(oh joy) and someone forgot how to drive so we set there while the wreckage was removed and thus got through security at 8:30 with the gate shutting at 8:50. Therefore Easyjet's sit where ever got the better of us and my mum ended up on row 8 and me in row 17. Anyway the 50 minuet flight was slightly bumpy over the Medway but the little A319 did the Job and we just about landed on the dreaded 18R because we followed a Singapore 777 down who had a KLM A330 in front of him, I t was just a little bit bumpy and as a result we bounced. I say dreaded because as you know 18R is about 1.5 Miles from the terminal, to which the guy next to me made the comment of 'Seeing as we landed in Belgium, you can drive me to my hotel.' this was amongst other comments such as a new feature with your A319 is auto bad landing were it will go from left to right and up to down' which is what we did, in big movements of about 5-6 degrees each time we tried to line back up with the center line. here is the A319 which brought us to AMS and just in case I forgot where I was. We landed and went through customs, which is a joke as the guy looked at just my passport and not my mums before saying welcome to Holland. This was followed by lunch and a trip to the airport model shop where I brought a KLM 777-300 for 9.95 Euros( that's a model by the way not the real one, unfortunately.) This was followed by 90 minuets on the panorama terrace, which is the terminal roof, that looks airside and you can take pictures. But oddly enough you can get to it land side, but not once through passport control, so air side but no security as this is done at the gate, you can't get up there. So here is a selection of images that I took while I was up there. And yes they have hit each other and that is a baggage trolly overtaking them on the wrong side of the road. But my personal favorite: I got this by luck, I was taking a picture of the Alitalia, and as I took it the Martinair came into the frame. We then went through Passport control, again not very secure, My mum passport got glanced over and we were asked where we were going to (back to Luton) and mine didn't even get looked at! :th_smiles73: Now that we were 'air side' but not security scanned we went in search of our gate area, which was a 20 minuet walk, mind you we weren't in a rush, and had about 2.5 hours to kill. We found our area and sat near a screen so we could see what gate the plane would park at when it landed and I took more pictures while my mum went and got us some drinks and came back with mine in this: How epic is that? This flight is bound for Shanghi but with some expensive cargo... Please don't land to hard. <ahem> Dai <ahem> these 2 Ferrari's caused quite a stir with the ground crew and it took them a while to figure out how they would load them. Anyway these are some of the pictures I took: By this time a gate had been anounced and we were not having the free seating get the better of us so we almost jogged down to the gate area, where we were screaned by security, I almost had the whole body scanner treatment but another desk oppened up and we were called to that one instead, so I only got the arch way metal detector. Upon arrival to the gate there was no plane and we got greeted by Mrs I love my job so much I won't make eye contact or smile and I will just grunt instead  She needed some customer service training. The plane was actually 10 ahead of sceduale and we were shortly on board sitting in row 18 next to each other. Again it was another A319. my veiw the cabin during boarding Waiting for their passengers. We pushed back 2 minuets early, again flight time was about 50 minuets and had another EasyJet ahead of us and and Lufthansa as well so we were number three, but taxi time to the runway was about 3 minuets as they had changed runways. Again, I couldn't use the camara on take off but I took pictures as soon as the crew got out of their seats. Bye bye Holland setling down into the cruise During the cruise I brought 2 EasyJet models for 10 Euros and my mum got the Easyjet bear. Turning towards the UK Back over the Uk now, about 100 miles to go according to the captain. We began to descend and the crew decalered all electrical items Should be turned off not must and well this sort of just happened: :th_smiles73: We are down looking for the taxi way Now taxing in. Again the approch was turbulant but the landing was smooth. So to sum it up, well it was a long day, we landed at 17:55 10 minuets ahead, but it was a good day. If you do want somewhere to take pictures and get a flight in then AMS is your airport, it was about £125 for both of use including card fee and taxes, but I booked in Augaust, that was without baggage and speedy boarding though. Only problem through out the day was the car park at the end as we had pre booked, but the machine decaled we give it £20, so we asked for assistance and before we said anything, we got asked were we pre booked and what was the referance number. So by the sound of it they get this happen a lot to them Would I do it again? Yes I would but I would do it else where next time, it was for sure one of the best birthday pressent ever, and it is early by 2 weeks and it was an enjoyed day. Thanks for reading, (if you got this far) and I hope that I didn't send you to sleep. Comments welcome TRB
