So today i picked up my new 'stang from Biggin Hill, and I'm off for my hols... Winter in the Bahamas. Yum!

(Must visit John on my way through Floridia...)

My first stop for the night: Stornoway. The Western Isles might not be an obvious staging post for the North Atlantic, but it cuts around 100 miles off the first crossing, which could save a late swim if the winds are badly against us.

[Memo to self: Make sure you reactivate the main FS window before taking pictures! All my shots of the approach were of just the autopilot popup. Ho hum! :whis: ]

A slight whoops on leg 2, when I discovered I left the camera in my bag, which got stowed in the forward baggage area, which is only accessible from outside the plane...

(i.e. I forgot to load the screenshot app :whis: )

So here we are about to depart Keflavik for Greenland...

Someone's graffiti'd the plane, but I'm sure it'll wash off...

Late descent, field in sight

I'm going to overfly the approach, for the NDB procedure onto runway 07

No pics of the approach, since I was too busy, but here I am on short final.

Good work Tim,

That Greenland scenery looks excellent I really must get it.

Sorry it's a fair cop, I switched aircraft at Keflavik and didn't think you would notice. :fool:

Lets see now...

Biggin to Stornoway was 475nm

Stornoway to Keflavik was 580nm

Keflavik to Narsarsuaq was 650nm

And the next leg to Gander will be 800nm, and I'm expecting it to take around 3 hours. I have something else to do tonight, so I'll probably fly it tomorrow. In practical terms, 800nm is about the limit of the Mustang, with IFR reserves and a headwind. Normally on this leg I'd go to Goose Bay or Iqaluit, both of which are shorter. But I fancied going somewhere I hadn't been before!

On to leg 4, and Gander.

By pure chance, this chap was also crossing the Atlantic, and left a few minutes before me. he was going further, faster and higher--to Halifax, in fact. And after following him across the Atlantic I was on the ground first by 5 minutes! Okay, not the same place, but, well I find these little coincidences on Vatsim amusing...

ta697.jpg

And we're off!

ta705.jpg

Leaving Greenland and the rather nice Narsarsuaq addon

ta711.jpg

Mid ocean crew change, and time for a coffee. (yeah, right!)

ta718.jpg

ta723.jpg

Land fall, and Newfoundland.

ta728.jpg

ta738.jpg

Final. And despite having a 25kt head wind all the way, it took slightly less than three hours, and we had plenty of fuel remaining over reserves.

A bit late with this write up! We've now arrived in Americaland, and sunny (comparatively) Portsmouth New Hampshire. At least, there's no snow on the ground...

This was the point at which Boston Center came online. Ho Hum! Anyway, off for some of that famous New England seafood.

  • 2 weeks later...

Bit late this update, but we're continuing South from Portsmouth New Hampshire, past Boston and New York, to Charlotte North Carolina.

ta816.jpg

Taking off from Portsmouth.

ta823.jpg

Approaching the northern tip of Long Island.

ta826.jpg

Southern Long island and Manhatten.

ta827.jpg

Traffic below! It's hard to get used to seeing jet traffic "down there"...

ta833.jpg

Passing over Manhatten.

ta834.jpg

JFK

ta837.jpg

La Guardia

ta865.jpg

And final into Charlotte.

Last leg, down into Florida.

ta891.jpg

Leaving Charlotte. I guess it's a US Airways hub!

ta901.jpg

heading out, back towards the coast

ta906.jpg

Heading down the Florida East Coast. Miami Center was online, and pretty soon we were under positive ATC control.

ta920.jpg

On a wide downwind into Palm Beach

ta930.jpg

And final. Just 15.5 flight hours from Biggin Hill - definitely a personal best!

Just got the paperwork through to say the plane can go onto the Manx registry. It does mean it'll have to live in the Isle of Man, but you should see the reggo....

<Nah. Secret!>

Hopefully it'll be out of the paint shop by the time I get back from the Bahamas. :woot:
