(Must visit John on my way through Floridia...) Leaving Biggin An assortment of in-flight pics My first stop for the night: Stornoway. The Western Isles might not be an obvious staging post for the North Atlantic, but it cuts around 100 miles off the first crossing, which could save a late swim if the winds are badly against us. [Memo to self: Make sure you reactivate the main FS window before taking pictures! All my shots of the approach were of just the autopilot popup. Ho hum! ] Link to post Share on other sites

(i.e. I forgot to load the screenshot app ) So here we are about to depart Keflavik for Greenland... Someone's graffiti'd the plane, but I'm sure it'll wash off... Nicely positioned in the cruise Follow the pink line! Coasting in over Greenland Late descent, field in sight I'm going to overfly the approach, for the NDB procedure onto runway 07 No pics of the approach, since I was too busy, but here I am on short final. Biggin to Stornoway was 475nm Stornoway to Keflavik was 580nm Keflavik to Narsarsuaq was 650nm And the next leg to Gander will be 800nm, and I'm expecting it to take around 3 hours. I have something else to do tonight, so I'll probably fly it tomorrow. In practical terms, 800nm is about the limit of the Mustang, with IFR reserves and a headwind. Normally on this leg I'd go to Goose Bay or Iqaluit, both of which are shorter. But I fancied going somewhere I hadn't been before! Link to post Share on other sites

By pure chance, this chap was also crossing the Atlantic, and left a few minutes before me. he was going further, faster and higher--to Halifax, in fact. And after following him across the Atlantic I was on the ground first by 5 minutes! Okay, not the same place, but, well I find these little coincidences on Vatsim amusing... And we're off! Leaving Greenland and the rather nice Narsarsuaq addon Mid ocean crew change, and time for a coffee. (yeah, right!) Land fall, and Newfoundland. Final. And despite having a 25kt head wind all the way, it took slightly less than three hours, and we had plenty of fuel remaining over reserves. Link to post Share on other sites

At least, there's no snow on the ground... Leaving Gander Right turn onto track Crossing the Gulf of St Lawrence. Prince Edward Island is in the foreground, with Nova Scotia beyond. A FedEx 757 passes me, heading for Halifax. Buzzed by some flash wossname Turning onto the ILS at Portsmouth Intl This was the point at which Boston Center came online. Ho Hum! Taking off from Portsmouth. Approaching the northern tip of Long Island. Southern Long island and Manhatten. Traffic below! It's hard to get used to seeing jet traffic "down there"... I guess it's a US Airways hub! heading out, back towards the coast Heading down the Florida East Coast. Miami Center was online, and pretty soon we were under positive ATC control. It does mean it'll have to live in the Isle of Man, but you should see the reggo.... <Nah. Secret!> Hopefully it'll be out of the paint shop by the time I get back from the Bahamas.
