Wing struts above the wing have to be big - they're in compression rather than tension and have to be beefy enough to not buckle. Wings struts below the wing are in tension and the load-bearing elemen

But can it lay an egg?   I've seen photos of that one before but don't know what it is or where it's based.  Such poor taste in flying objects is more commonly seen in the hot air balloon ge

What a cock up.

If that was a guess Andrew, I'd hate to see something you really know!!

Yep, Northrop-Grumman X-47B on the USS George H. W. Bush. Perfect.

But, who can tell me what carrier-based drones were used in the Korean War?

Good Guess Andrew. I wasnt sure whether to opt for the X-45 or X-47, I chose wrong LOL :D

Alan,

UAVs and fictional aircraft aren't normally my area, but I stuck at this one. The wingtip profile didn't fit the X-45 and it was obviously the USS George H. W. Bush.

OK - I give up! Correct yet again Andrew!

Kieran,

Don't give up. I have had years of a depraved and deprived life to get to this. Maybe it could be something you could look forward to. :D

I think Kieran would come into his own with a "Guess the Locomotive" thread. Show him one of the screw heads holding the inspection cover for the air brake servo and he could tell you make, model, serial number and the middle name of the engineer's mistress.

I guess it would depend on whether or not it was an A4 Pacific or a Manor. Could even be a Prairie Tank if you wanted to throw in a curve ball!.

I'm not sure I am following your train of thought Alan. :D But I guess there's no point stoking an argument and getting all steamed up about it. After all, I don't want to burst a boiler. Maybe you could whistle me another tune! But please don't misinterpret what I'm saying as I'm not suggesting a tender moment and, least of all, a coupling.

Having said all that, I think this thread has been derailed and at this junction maybe it's time to change the points and get it back on track, unless you want to signal something else.

Cheers

  That's just a hoot but we should make a rapid transit to another photo to keep the thread on line. :D
