Wing struts above the wing have to be big - they're in compression rather than tension and have to be beefy enough to not buckle. Wings struts below the wing are in tension and the load-bearing elemen

But can it lay an egg?   I've seen photos of that one before but don't know what it is or where it's based.  Such poor taste in flying objects is more commonly seen in the hot air balloon ge

OK Alan, I'll take the bait and come straight in with the mock-up of the Hawker P.1121.  It was developed to meet the Air Ministry's Operational Requirement, OR.339.  Work was stopped in 1958, after the infamous 1957 Defence White Paper by the Minister of Defence, Duncan Sandys, which called for manned fighter aircraft to be phased out and replaced with guided missiles.  What in hell was he thinking - or maybe taking.  :stars:

Correct Andrew as I expected you would be, it is the ill fated P1121, It was based loosely on the Hunter but had a lot more power among other things, It's layout was years ahead of anything else in it's class and it had people interested all over the world! Then that idiot Sandys stuck his nose in and the rest is history ,  :(

Arguably the best fighter we never got, the flying attributes of the Hunter with the power of an F-16! I do wish someone would make this for FS !

The short answer is, no.  Having said that though, I think it's merely academic. :P  The source actually identified it as the IAR-93 "Vultur".  So much for the partial reveal.  :(

Yes, the Miles M.28 'Mercury', would be an obvious answer, but too obvious in this instance.  There are some subtle differences between the M.28 and what Alan's challenge is.

It's a bit of an ugly duckling from some angles, but quite beautiful from others, thats only my view though. I guess the guy that put his signature at the bottom of the blueprints must have liked it anyway. Either way its a cute little bird and great to fly.
