Grass textures question

If I have Rex2 and Orbx scenery wud it be worth downloading and installing the free high quality grass textures from Rex site?

I may be totally wrong here Jim but aren't the REX links taking you to REX 2.0 stuff in order for people to trial their product? Isn't this stuff included in the main product? I must admit I haven't seen grass mentioned in their main product mind hmmm...

I know this is where I tried out their Jetway and aircraft parking download prior to buying REX 2.0 and subsequently getting Overdrive.

That's exactly why I'm asking mate cuz I was under same impression too but the grass doesnt look like the picture in my game, so wondered if I needed it or not or if orbx was overwriting the grass texture maybe?

Agh right. Interesting because now you mention it mine doesn't look like that either nor did it before I started heavily investing in Orbx stuff.

I'm not at home now until tomorrow night - but I think I will install it and see if there is a difference because it is free after all!

I like the look of the Grass Environment product but that's not free!

I'm gona try installing the Rex one wen I get chance see how that is - ill keep u posted

I would have thought the ORBX fields have their own texture as will many addon arifields. The REX texture will probably only affect airfields where the FSX original is still in place. I wouldn't pay for a grass texture, use the REX free.

I am not an expert on these things, but here's how I see it:

As far as I know, there are two main parts to what you see on the ground - the main colour stuff, and then the bump map/texture thing (?).

The main colour/texture is usually what changes with different addon airports and sceneries (you can easily notice it). This is what makes the ground look like green grass, white snow, or, if it's photoreal, then whatever is on the photo or satellite image.

Then there's another layer which goes on top of that, and it gives the ground it's 3Dish texture. That's what your taking about here. FS comes with it's own texture, but it is generally lackluster, and that's why there are addon textures. The most common are probably the ones that come with Orbx products, in the FTX Aero utility. There are a few to choose from there, and they're pretty nice. Then you can get extra ones like those that you mentioned, Jim. I say you go ahead and try the REX grass texture (after all, it is free), just make sure to backup your originals! However, I would stay away from the payware one, as 20 Euros is way too much for a simple grass texture.
