dodgy-alan 1,587
Nice shots of a lovely old girl. When I was a child living in Cranford near Heathrow in the 60s we used to see dozens of these, The last operator to fly from LHR was TMA of Lebanon who were flying their DC6F cargo carriers right into the 1970s. britfrog 180
Nice shots of a lovely old girl. When I was a child living in Cranford near Heathrow in the 60s we used to see dozens of these, The last operator to fly from LHR was TMA of Lebanon who were flying their DC6F cargo carriers right into the 1970s. when i were a lad, as the saying goes we used to come back to the uk for our hols (we lived in the bahamas-) i well remember when the main terminal was along the A4 and we were flying back via shannon, goose bay and new york (the regular route then) the plane was late arriving, then the plane went tech with a 4 hour delay which became an 8 hour delay because of an engine change, well eventually we boarded , got to the end of the runway and rolled along only to have the brakes come full on at the last minute, we then retraced our steps, and had another go, at this time i was all of maybe 10 but already a seasoned travellor, well i can recall the lights of the A4 being no more than 50 feet below as we struggled into the air, and what was for me more worrying were the flames coming out of the inboard engine going back 2/3rds of the way across the wing!! after the crew started to do their functions I showed my mother the flames and voiced my concerns, which she immediatly conveyed to the nearest steward, to which he leant across us and pulled down the sun visor and told us not to worry!! i was worried shitless!! but did as i was told after all what does a 10 year old know?? nonethe less i peeked under the sunvisor regularly to make sure the wing was still there and as we climbed higher the yellow flames became shorter and blue but i was never happy and as it turned out they changed the engine in new york which meant another 8 hour delay but that was how it was back then.
