Thanks for the pics Dai nice one.

my mate near Biggin has the graphics from an RAF hercules simulator which have a large curved screen, imagine the radius being similar to the front of a real herc and the image is projected onto the sreen from 3 projectors, quite something to see!

in many respects Komodo is going along the right lines but he needs better screens and several projectors (if he was only using one) the only problem is that good quality projectors are more expensive than monitors but the overall feeling is much more realistic than 3 monitors. what he should have done was have the instruments on a monitor nearer the student and the screen showing only the exterior view IMO.

But having looked at Dai's pics i am amazed at how amateurish most of the installations were and yet how devout we are to our hobby, I suppose all our installations reflect our financement/ lack of room.

Still i am sad I didnt get there it looked like a fun day.

Regarding the Lynx with ejection seat.

The Russian attack helicopter ka-50 black shark has an ejection seat for the crew, there is an explosive charge in each rotor. When the Pilot wishes to eject; there is a momentary delay before ejection for the blades to be blown off before the seat ejects.

I should think the Lynx had a similar system.. If not the poor Pilot would have had a sore head upon landing?? :stars:

I need someone to explain "sticky toffee and gravy" please?

John

John, you just know it's going to odd if Dai posted it!

Sticky Toffee = Sticky Toffee pudding normally served with custard and/or cream.

On Martins plate there is also a toffee sauce which looks like gravy?

I think that's the explanation. :hat:

So, all sweet? If that's the case it sounds fine, even without a couple of scoops of ice cream on top of it.

Hi Guys!!

It was great to meet some of you at the show, it was a fantastic weekend.

Many thanks for the kind comments about our setup, it is still a work in progress and didn't quite go as planned.

@ britfrog you are right we do need a better screen. We were using 2 HD projectors to give approximately a 160' field of view, but the actual screen didn't work out quite as planned. We couldn't get the actual screen tought enough to remove all the ripples. We spent so much time on the setup day trying to get it flat that we ran out of time to setup the warping and blending properly. This was the first time we had actually had the full setup all together. We also have a new frame in testing at the moment that allows you to mount a monitor to display the gauges for the aircraft and then just to have the projectors for the outside visuals. We are constantly designing and adapting our setup to what people want and suggest. The more people that give us feedback and ideas the better our systems will be!!

We learnt a lot from the initial setup and the fact the virtually everyone commented on how good the screen etc.. looked it has led us to start designing a low cost curved screen. The plan is to have them light weight, portable and easy to setup as well as keeping the cost as slow as possible. We are looking at making them in 3 different sizes to accommodate 1,2 or 3 projectors.

Please feel free to throw ideas and comments, all welcome!!

Cheers guys!!

Rich

Hi Rich

Thanks for popping in, to be honest I was impressed by the field of view provided by the 2 projectors and screen.

I guess you must have noticed the ripples on the screen more than I did with an image beamed on it.

I was amazed on how smoothly the cyclic and collective moved and the response from the aircraft, hence my comedy take off and landing, I'm hoping Brian forgets to post those shots!

Please keep us up to date with developments :thum:

Cheers,

Joe

Hi Joe,

Many thanks!! A lot of work has gone into the controls, they have been 10 years in development, but they are now where we want them. Just got to sort the screen out now!!

Yeah to me the ripples stood out a mile, but I guess I was looking for them!!

Certainly will!!

Cheers

Rich
