hurricanemk1c 195
Hi all! As promised, here a few shots from Doncaster railway station - always busy! So here is just a selection of shots taken 67025 wearing the now defunt livery of English, Welsh and Scottish Railway (EWS), who were bought out by Deutsche Bahn and re-named DB Schenker 91113, wearing GNER livery with 'East Coast' stripe standing alone Mk3 11028 being refurbished at the WABTEC plant Class 321/9 321902 has just arrived Another Mk3, this time from DRS (11054) A Mk1 translator vehicle 975974 (On one end it has an EMU specific coupler and the other a standard coupling, allowing EMU's to be hauled around the network) 185137 from First TransPennie Express 43313 leads in an East Coast service..... ....whilst 91122 propells a service to London Kings Cross.... ....pushing these Mk4's 'Voyager' 220020 to the left and 'Pacer' 144001 to the right, ready for the off Orginally built for First Great Western, some 180's, like 180105, have ended up with open access operator Grand Central Now for the first of the freight movements - 66717 leads a long train of HTA coal wagons 91102 whilstes past, with 82217 trailing Another Northern Pacer, 144013 being the subject This little 'Gronk', 08669, was shuttling back and forth with wagons and coaches in 'The Plant' 66742 on another coal run Passing the other way is 66746 on an intermodal train Whilst a bit later, 66570 passes through a now wet and cold Doncaster Also passing whilst it was wet was 43467, a re-engined 'HST' power car 170302 is now a long way from where it was orginally - built for South West Trains, it now goes to Hull Another Voyager, this time 220033 Now, a special liveried 91. I was hoping for the BBMF liveried example, but instead the 'Flying Scotsman' set turned up. 91101 And 82205 in matching livery 322481 is a long way from Standsted airport The cab of 322481 91114 in semi-GNER livery Now then, how many people can see three operator names on this? Bit closer.... A Chiltern Mk3 being fitted with power doors makes a move outside 66102 wearing EWS livery passes through 180103 of First Hull Trains With 180111 pausing the other way And to finish up - 185147 Hope you all enjoyed these pictures! stu7708 244
Great shots Kieran, and I think Kasper would have prefered that site over that position under the approach at ESSA
rob16584 42
I went from pontefract monkhill - kings cross last year on the grand central service. Great journey as the train was packed out with rugby fans going to London for the cup final weekend. Don't think there will be as many this year as the price has gone up from £30 return to £100+. We're driving down and staying near city airport, hopefully will be abe to see some planes coming and going
brett 2,310
Brett, is that Sabre's brother getting on in the last? Ha , Looks like him but this fella looks to be a bit too steady on his feet.
hurricanemk1c 195
Thanks for the comments folks @Mickael - I don't think Kasper would like to stand next to a '91' when it starts to get going (the cooling fans are very loud!)
britfrog 180
My daughter and B/F came down from Doncaster and met me in London on thursday they could not afford such an expensive mode of transport as the train so took a megabus which cost £6 each. We then jumped in a jaguar and drove solidly for 14 hours arriving here in the south of France at 4.30 AM Why are trains so stupidly expensive there? it is no wonder no-one uses them and the roads are full. From here in Perpignan i can take a TGV to Paris (4 hours) first class for less than a bone shaker from birmingham to london.
hurricanemk1c 195
I believe the reason why trains are stupidly expensive are the fact that the Government effectivly controls the railway including fares. They set baselines and with words like, 'The revenue income must be £Xmillion to recieve our subisdry' doesn't help. Of course, the TGV is heavily subsidised, along with many other European operators. But they don't tell you that. Also, stuff like the TGV has the ecoonomy of scale - a single Atlantique set can take about 485 people on it's own dedicated High Speed Line (HSL), compared to a Pendolino from Glasgow to London (403 miles), carrying a max of 439 in the far more restricted loading gauge
rob16584 42
Mainly because british industry and the government are a set of bandits
