hurricanemk1c 195
Hi all! Here's the next lot of pictures, this time from the Great Central Railway in Leicestershire. First off, D5401 aka 27056 powering away with the train Now then, this 'thing' caught our attention The pioneer Class 70 'PowerHaul' class, designed to replace the Class 66 in service. Unfortunatly, the class is currently plauged with trouble. Newport docks dropped a brand-new one fresh off the ship, bent the frame and had to be sent back. Several have also caught fire for strange reasons. 70001 is named 'PowerHaul' Ugly, isn't it? Cab Moving on to more pleasing locos, 37198 in Network Rail yellow, stands around 33002 in 'Dutch'livery (the NS (Netherlands Railway) livery is the same colours) Noticed this? Eastleigh depot plaque D123, a Class 45 'Peak', so named because the similar Class 44's were all named after peaks D5830 in unique Golden livery 'Chopper' D8098 doing a bit of shunting 08694, an example of the numerous 'Gronk', or '350' The National Railway Musuem's Class 33, 33116. You proberly haven't noticed the bent frame 'Motorail GUV' behind the depot A Mk3 Sleeper in Intercity 'Swallow' livery. It's gotthe wrong bogies (compare it to some Mk3's in my Doncaster post) A Mk2 proudly showing a Regional Railways door First run out, behind '8F' 48624 And at Rothley D5401 sitting in the sun Clag!! Windowhanging Back at Loughborough, 70001 is running in Built by General Electric How many fitters does it take to change a lightbulb? They seemed to enjoy the '8F' though Going back to Rothley A LNER 'Beaver Tail' A few TPO's At Rothley, RKB 1695 basks in the sun If you noticed the little McRat in the window, well done! Here we are powering away More clag! An ex. Breakdown train coach shows three personalities 70001 passes Final sunshine And a typical corridor in a Mark 1 Thanks ofr viewing! The next lot should be RIAT Kieran
mutley 4,498
Hey Kieran, Thanks for posting a fascinating set of shots. Seeing that Eastleigh Spitfire logo reminds me I come from a railway family with one of the longest combined service records with BR stretching back over a hundred years with about 500 years of service! My Grandpa was the last to work for BR and lived in Eastleigh which was known as a railway town. I have a family tree based around the railway. Perhaps I should take more notice! Cheers Joe
jaydor 345
Hi Kieran, Like you I also am a Railway fan. I was very lucky to have worked on the railway after I finished in the Fire Brigade. I was a signalman in the South Wales area of the Railway and worked at many signal boxes in South Wales including Newport (Gwent) Signal Panel that controlled the Main lines into South Wales including the Severn tunnel. I found a clip on you tube of me giving the token to a Rhymney train (Class 37). I stayed clear for the camera to get good shots of the train going onto the viaduct at Bargoed. Enjoy.. hurricanemk1c 195
Ahh - good old '37' - thanks for posting James! I remember that we went to Wales twice (once a day trip and once for a week), just to travel behind those 37's on Rhymney runs. If I remember rightly, 37402 decided to fail at this little statin on a Fishguard run and we all pilled onto a '158' at this little request stop! Good times! The coaches there were used at one point for Leeds-Carlisle runs, of which I did one way Leeds-Carlisle, then had another failure, this time a '87' at Preston, of which we swapped nice, comfy Mark3's for a Pendolino! brett 2,316
Great pic's The one train, 33002 in 'Dutch'livery, looks like it has an identity crisis. It's a train called the Sea King with a fighter silhouette on it. Don't know anything about trains but it sure tickled my funny bone.
hurricanemk1c 195
Never thought about it Brett! It was named without ceremony on 6/11/91, nameplates noted off the loco 7/10/96 (Day, Month, Year). Bought by the South Devon Diesel Group in 2005, restored with nameplates and is now 'doing the circuits'
