Despite a pretty busy day I managed to crank out two new and an update. My incentive was to break over the 1,700 mark - I might not have done any today if not for that. Anyway, we're there. Can 2,000 be far away?

I'm happy to report that Quickmarch is back at his home base and will be joining in again to produce airport diagrams. His working list is mainly Canadian airports, but he bears a hand when request lists come up as well. I believe the last one he did before going walkabout in Asia (OK, he really didn't walk all that way), was from the Danube adventure, in Bulgaria. That's a far cry from Canada.

There is a bit of a coincidence tonight between the update of the oldest file LEVT and one of the new ones, LERT, both in Spain. They came from completely different sources so it was just the luck of the draw.

Just when you think you've seen everything there is to see in FSX, or at least one example of everything, you turn over another rock and there's a whole new species staring at you.

I'm referring to 3R3, Austin Executive, in Austin, Texas. It's closed - the single runway is Xed out, as are all the taxiways. It has some published radio frequencies but generic things, nothing specific to the airport. I suspect that this represents the real world as it existed when Microsoft gathered the data for FSX. Chalk it up as one more strange one in the collection. I did add a special note to the diagram in this case.

M37 in Mississippi is another small, one runway airport but at least it's not closed. I'm not sure I'd want to live in a place called, Ruleville, however. That sounds a bit too structured for me.

LIRS is Grosseto Military, in the town of the same name in Italy. I find myself wondering if Grosseto means "big little" or "little big", or something like that. No worse than Little Big Horn, Lower Upham, Southern North Dakota or Jumbo Shrimp I guess - oxymorons are where you find them, as opposed to ordinary morons who are just about everywhere. The latter, however do seem to be particularly numerous in governments.

I always am interested in why they close airports so I looked up 3R3. This from Wikipedia:

Austin Executive Airpark (FAA LID: 3R3), formerly known as Tim's Airpark (in the 1960s and 1970s), was a public-use airport located in Austin, Texas, United States.[1] It was located near the intersection of Parmer Lane and Interstate 35.

The property was purchased by nearby Dell Computers with the intentions of using it to expand its warehouse facilities. The airport was permanently closed on May 1, 1999.[2]

In 2011, another existing airport located in nearby Manor, Texas was expanded and renamed Austin Executive Airport.

It also looks like it was wiped out for some big condos on the west side too, looking at it in Google maps.

Nice looking place in FSX, landed there anyway despite the X's and no one was around to yell at me.......oh oh...here comes a security vehicle, gotta go..... :D

BTW-Congrats on the over 1700 milestone :thum:

Above you and Joe were talking about the amount of downloads. I don't know about every one else but alot of times I just click on your link here and then click on the img to enlarge it, then I just save it using the snip tool. Less clicks because it shows up after downloading as a http doc and I have to save the thing from there anyway. This might be one reason for a lack of download counts if others do the same.

I use your thread as a free flight idea page alot, usually "hey this like a cool place to fly too". Looking at your thread view count I would guess others find these postings interesting too so I wouldn't be so concerned with the download count. You are making a great contribution to the flight sim world and enjoying yourself in the process, win win in my book. :thum: Oh yeah, you also let QM play too, so another win.  :hat:

Yep, I'm aware that there is a way to grab the posted diagrams while bypassing the download counters - that's life. I understand that what I see on the download counter is a bare minimum - very likely a lot more than that are being copied out and pasted. I suppose I could zip them and not show the thumbnails/screenshots, but don't want to make it more difficult or discourage people in any way from using them. What I'm doing is fine and I'm happy knowing they are being used by some people. The subscribers get them all by e-mail as I do them.

Quickmarch jumped through hoops to learn my process and standards. His stated intent right from the beginning was to learn and emulate my "style" for airport diagrams and he's done that quite well. We both want the users to not be able to tell which of us did one except by looking at the e-mail address in the bottom right corner.

I got wrapped around the axle on another project today and until very late this evening I thought I was only going to have one airport diagram for you today, but was saved. Like the US Cavalry, (or maybe that should be the RCMP) Quickmarch came charging over the hill at the last minute and saved me with a new airport and an update to an earlier one.

FWKI in Malawi came from the national capitals list and is my only contribution to this batch. It's a good sized one-runway international with one custom building (the terminal, I assume) and decent facilities.

Quickmarch's new airport today is CYWV in Wainright, Alberta. It's a 3,000' paved strip with a small apron, lying at 2,230 MSL, so must be up in the wild terrain out west.

His update, simply converting an earlier one that was done in landscape format to our preferred (where it will work) portrait format, was CJK4, Esterhazy, Saskatchewan.

I'm very pleased to see Quickmarch back from his Asian jaunt and buckling down to producing airport diagrams. I think he's got another project in mind too, related to his Asian travels - keep an eye on his posts in the Mutley's Hangar forum.

Being the end of the month, this will be the last update in this thread. I'll start a new one tomorrow for February.
