Ed Force One 2011 tour

Recommended Posts

This might be of interest here, been wanting to build an Iron Maiden Boeing 757-200 for a while now but the decals were really hard to find, have the 2011 (G-STRX) decals now and looking for a suitable Minicraft 1/144 kit now.

I bought a Masterkit 1/144 757-200 kit as part of the deal, its way underscale though, apparently the doner kit I need is the Minicraft 1/144 757-200 and i've got some on my Ebay watch list for the future.

I've never built a model airliner before or anything this small in scale, should be fun!

Once built it will end up something like this I hope.

Thanks for the links folks, will build the Masterkit 757-200 as a sort of dry run for the Minicraft kit, it has United markings, getting a good white finish can be a bit difficult so will need the practise.

Hi Kieran, I belong to the Flory Models site and one of the members there let me know that a guy on the Brit Modeller site was printing them, so got them from there over the Christmas holidays :thum:

These decals seem to be on Ebay now though and its probably from the same guy in Canada I dealt with?

http://www.ebay.co.uk/sch/i.html?_nkw=iron+maiden+1%2F144+decal&_sacat=0&_odkw=iron+maiden+decal&_osacat=0&_from=R40

This was actually the second time the band did a tour with the jet in their livery, first was 2008 Somewhere Back In Time tour and decals in 1/144 existed for this too at one time but these really are rarer than hens teeth! If anyone sees them please let me know :thum:

I'm hesitant to make a separate or dedicated scale modelling thread on this site so just keeping it here for now.

At the end of the day Scale Modelling/Aviation/Flight Simming, its all related in my book under the same passion.

As regards scale modelling, my main scale is 1/32 Aircraft and a recent subject I've bought is the Trumpeter F-117A in this scale, you would not believe how large this Aircraft was, am comparing it to other known examples of large Aircraft in similar scale kits here.

Tamiya F-15 Eagle (Half built) here

And a Trumpeter SU-27 too and that is one big Jet.

Looks like there is not a lot of building in the Trumpeter 1/32 F-117A seen like this but its still a 250 piece kit.

Wow, I can see what you mean about the size, just for a single pilot, I wonder how many back up computers it needs to ensure it stays in the air?

You seem to have a lot on the go at one time Colin, do you ever get confused and stick a sidewinder on an airliner?!

LOL, not yet Joe, BTW managed to finally source the 1/144 2008 Iron Maiden decals too now, so sometime this year (hopefully) I'll need two Minicraft 757-200's to do in both tour livery's, these will be the only model airliners I've ever attempted but will look smart on my flight sim desk too, I'll maybe do one in flight and one wheels down?  I've also had the daft notion of maybe attempting a world tour that the band did in Flight Sim if anyone knows of a 757 for FSX with these markings? I like to do flights in FSX that are structured and have a purpose! it would not be to hard to find the destinations for both those world tours Iron Maiden did with Ed Force One.

I guess I do float from hobby to hobby Joe, its definitely cyclic though, I go from Flight Sim, Scale Modelling, Astronomy as the main three, but each time I come back to one its with a renewed passion that lasts for ages ... I dunno, it works for me and keeps things fresh :thum:

This wikipedia link has all the concerts listed and the notes sections have links to all the cities. Might be a good place to start for flight plans. I couldn't find the actual airport info but I'm sure it's out there somewhere.

Cheers Brett :thum:  That's a great start, I know there is some highly detailed info from the Iron Maiden fan channels on Youtube too for these tours.

I'd really do this in FSX if I could find a suitable aircraft with a decent panel (payware or freeware) the livery would be the icing on the cake!

I'm more an FSX GA Aircraft type guy, but this would be fun for me.

Good news about the decals Colin.

Regarding the FSX liveries, if anyone knows then Chuck (Kieran) will, I will keep an eye out too.

I guess my two passions are flight simming and web design, hence this site! It get's a bit much sometimes but I keep bouncing back!

Speak soon,

Joe

There are a few for the Captain Sim 757: (edforce1.zip - CS757 for FS9/FSX, 2008 Tour), then there's a few for the Project Opensky 757. See 'Flight Sim Adventures'.

BTW - if you have 'On Board Flight 666', that has a list of shows for the Somewhere Back In Time and Final Frontier 2010/2011 tours. Nice photos too. If you are planning an Around the World flight, I believe that the aircraft was used around Australia, but minus equipment that was trucked around

Cheers Joe, my weak point in scale modelling is decalling too ... BTW, the picture was intended for a "What did you get today" thread in another forum, hence the pic of the Blu ray Red Tails disc, not sure what the film is actually like but it should be entertaining.

I bought it yesterday as part of my AV Home Cinema system upgrade that was well overdue and finally got delivered Yesterday after much hassle, its a Samsung PS60E550 60" 3D Plasma Telly and very nice it is too, watched Avatar 3D last night ... absolutely stunning and then a 3D film about the Isle of Man TT races, again fantastic stuff for my interest.

Some pics of my new baby :)

I think I'll look fwd to watching the Piranha 3DD pic with much interest, its supposed to be a dark comedy erotic horror film and I like that stuff from time to time :)

Thanks Kieran.

Will be later this year at the earliest before I get round to building these Jets, also there is some ambiguity about the Jets engines that Ed Force One/Astraeus Airlines used and these were noticeably different from the outside ... more research needed on my part here ... and that's all part of the fun in scale modelling IMHO.

You mentioned Scale Modelling too once and maybe Model Railways? would love to see pics, used to do model railway stuff as a kid, would love to get into it again ... there really is not enough time or money in my life to do what I would like as leisure pursuits these days.

Do you try the various railway simulations?

I've heard Rod Stewart has built a fantastic model railway ... Here it is.

Hi Colin,

I'm just uploading some 'latest shots' from my own modelling. Will be put into my blog.

As for railway sims, yes I've got a few - Microsoft Train Sim, RailWorks (or Train Sim 2013 as it's now know), two versions of Trainz and the free OpenBVE, which I did start developing for, but must get back in to it!

Great stuff Kieran :thum:

While I'm yapping and my Photobucket page is still open, here are a few shots of a Tamiya 1/12 Honda RC166 as raced by the late great Mike Hailwood in the IOM TT races that I'm building as part of a group build on the Flory Model site.
