Whangaruru Harbour to Bay of Islands...

Recommended Posts

Continuing my tour of NZ North Island, todays leg was from the beach in the harbour where I parked to an island called Urapukapuka in the Bay of Islands, not far from Russell. Here is a sequence of pictures that I took along the way:-

Here is where I was parked on the beach.

Launching off the beach and about to retract the gear.

Taxying out on the step to get sufficient clear run into wind for take-off.

Unsticking and...

...pick up the road to Russell.

The road is pretty rough and twisty and...

...I remember when I drove it for real that we stopped somewhere...

...along this road to admire a famous tree. It was a giant "Twin-Bole Kauri" tree.

I don't think it will be here in P3D LOL!

Following the road got fairly confusing but...

...I found Russell eventually and...

...turned over the top of the town to set course for...

...that nearest island, which is called Urapukapuka.

I'm going to land in that sandy bay at my 11 o'clock.

p3d450.jpg

It is a popular anchorage so I must be careful...

...yachts.

So I am taxying gently past them.

And after putting the gear down I am running up the beach.

This looks a lovely place to park.

When we came here many years ago, we were brought out here in a Ranger's boat and...

...we spend some time exploring the island while the Ranger did his business on the island.

It was a great day and we were very pleased to be given the opportunity to visit.

Thanks for looking  :thanks:
