jaydor 345
That is quite a fantastic look into something completely different. Thank you Brian for explaining the nature of the beast in a simmers understanding.
needles 1,013
Brilliant review Brian although you lost me at the second bullet point. I still had a great read though. Well done on a very in depth and well laid out review. Looking forward to your next one.
Bruce (a.k.a. brian747) 142
That's most kind, and very much appreciated — thank you, gentlemen! As you may know, I have had to withdraw from active zimming owing to my father's long-term illness and incapacity — but I do still lurk here occasionally, enjoy the customary good-humoured banter, and for a while feel part of the scene again.... My warmest and most sincere best wishes to everyone, and especially those whose active participation makes Mutley's Hangar the fabulous place that it is! (You know, and we know, who you are!) Cheers, Bruce (a.k.a., er, the other one)
brett 2,316
As always Bruce/Brian a well written and very detailed review. It is not something that I would be interested in buying but couldn't pass up knowing more about it. I am in awe of what this guy has accomplished, maybe LM should hire him as a consultant. It was good to hear from you, hope all is well with your Dad.
hifly 925
+1 It would be beyond my capabilities and budget but Bruce/Brian's excellent review made a damn good read into what must be the most sophisticated flight sims available. Thanks Brian/Bruce. Wishing you all the Best.
dogtrack 346
Yes, a cracking read. Thanks.
Bruce (a.k.a. brian747) 142
Many thanks, guys — I'm happy you enjoyed it. Just to pick up on Brett's point (Hi, Brett! ): > " I am in awe of what this guy has accomplished...." I'll drink to that! Having worked in the software industry since the days of punched cards and paper tape, I am very aware of the fact that doubling the size of the team does *not* get the software written in half the time — in fact it might even slow things down.... (And no, nine women can't produce a baby in one month, either). But nonetheless, the fact that Hardy Heinlin took a mere (!) six years of continuous work to write such a hugely complex simulation from scratch (I could only hint at its depths in such a short review) is nonetheless an amazing achievement by any standards. It's true that he had previously written PS1 (but that was in a different language, so none of that code was reusable), and also that he knows the 744 more intimately than I can possibly imagine (during the writing process he has uncovered various mistakes in the official manuals!), but just the same.... Phew! Cheers, B.
