  2. Very possibly true, but it's naive to think you can prevent it by not installing the updates. Only political/legal prohibition has any hope of doing that, and even that may fail. Government employees bent on "national security" often seem to feel that the end justifies the means. The motives of MS, Google, Facebook and other commercial entities to snoop and vacuum up people's information is less clear to me and is even more difficult to justify, but that's happening too. John
