Sounds like the kind of thing an ex military pilot would do.

you may well be right, many years ago my ex boss was checking out a RAF jet jock who wanted to hire our 207 and they took off from biggin straight into clag , flew down to the south coast and descended to barke cloud base not a lot of feet over the sea. Having satisfied my boss that he could fly he asked if he could return to biggin using a route he had recce'd the week before in a tornado, my boss agreed so off they went up the little valleys etc all the way back and never flew into cloud or higher than about 200 feet agl apparently it was interesting.

This was yesterday

http://m.youtube.com/watch?v=kZZIAwkzh2k

Spent the afternoon watching the Extreme Sailing Series in Nice. This was a real bonus as I was not keeping up with the series and was pleasantly surprised to walk down to the waterfront, sit down with a beer, and watch a very exiting day on the water.

Oh yes. This is what I'll be doing today as well.

Friday is the day my wife and I go shooting - I burned almost 150 rounds through handguns today and had a good time.

John

Now that's what I trust. If Kate was in close proximity to me with a gun I would be very :yikes:

I love the smell of gunpowder in the morning. :D

And I love the smell of a rib eye steak with garlic and a dash of red wine in the evening which I have just enjoyed. :P

That sounds really good and beats my chicken salad sandwich by a mile. :(

Yes Brett but it must be only lunchtime over there, the sandwich will keep you going 'til supper. You still have time to go to the store and get a rib eye or a T bone, marinade in red wine and seasoning for a few hours and...

Bon Appetite, go on you deserve it! :P  :thum:

well if you listen to the expat sites over here, after sales service is non-existant in France. Strangely my wife and I seem to live in an alter life because we have found the after sales service is far better than the UK, on one proviso, you keep the purchase invoice safe.

To give you an example a while ago one of the locks on our sliding patio doors broke, no big problem as we have shutters that we close if we go out , but a pain as the dog knows hoew to push it open with his nose. Our house was built back in 82 , so 30 years ago , as luck would have it after enquiring around the village i was put in touch with the builder , who told me who the company was that supplied and fitted the double glazed doors. The doors also have about 4 plastic vents with flaps in them to stop spiders and bugs getting in and at least 10 of them had also given up the ghost over the years. So yesterday went to the coast and found that the window company was still open, that in itself was a pleasant surprise because back in the UK they go bust nearly after every job to avoid warrantee issues. Still walked in and saw the man behind the counter and explained what I wanted, after a pained look he asked did i by any chance have a photo of the lock, as it happened i did in my phone so showed him it and described the plastic vents, whereupon he disappeared,------- 10 minutes later he reappeared with an apology as it had been difficult finding the right lock, but he had one !! drink up !! and he had 10 of the vents , double whiskey please !!!

so after a pregnant moment I asked him how much I owed him, nothing he said

what was that ?   Nothing???

he would not even take a drink

what could I say but a heartfelt thank you!,

double glazing with over a 30 year warrantee   result!!!

so today removed the door and changed the lock now all is tickety boo!!!

Well britfrog, that is what I call Good ole fashion Service which as you say is so rare these days. Three cases in point are that two people I know have recently had issues with BT, each of them totalled over two hours on hold while being told by a recorded message that their custom is valued.

In my case, I had ordered Orbix UK scenery from a company in Oz. I then realised it was not compatable with airports that i have so I didn't download it. Instead I asked for the QualityWings 757 which cost more and was happy to pay the extra. The reply I got was 'I will have to speak to the CEO.'

For three weeks, despite four enquiries from me, I heard nothing so I got a refund through Paypal.  Immediately I got a response from the company, 'Blah blah if we can help you in any way blah blah'. :fool:s

Needless to say, they won't be getting my business.

sadly Geof I have i know whom you are referring to and have had a similar experience they dont answer emails because they have nearly 100% of orbx sales and couldnt give a **** about their customers, they are a load of aussie tossers!! and to be honest i would use stronger language but refrain in respect to Joe and our site to be honest when I buy orbx i either use aerosoft or i download it from pirate bay and buy the license elsewhere when possible, the problem is JV thinks the sun shines out of their sewer. And JV listens to no-one except his bank manager,

Thanks bf, it's reassuring that it wasn't just me, I've seen that name mentioned here a few times. Had I known I wouldn't have bothered them. They obviously don't need the business.

On a happier note, one thing I did today was to buy the book, A higher Call by Adam Makos a true story about a WW2 German fighter pilot escorting a crippled Fortress back to the English Channel. I look forward to it.

Best,

I have been a busy bee today, but I managed a short flight in the Legacy, from Cardiff EGFF to Welshpool EGCW, weather was light cloud and little wind. (No Baked Beans)

I am using GenX UK fotoscenery, so just enjoyed the scenery rolling by at 5000'.  But I am not sure what this was that caught my eye:

Strange light in cloud upper right

It was not an aircraft known to FSX as there was no red info.

I guess a lot of pilots see things that are not normal in the skies?

  • 4 weeks later...

well it has been blowing quite well here all day (gusts over 80mph) and I have just looked at the weather for the week ahead and joy of joys it is with us till at least next weekend. Wednesday looks particularly interesting as they are predicting winds of 100mph or higher. So we currently have a mauve warning that is one above a red warning in our region , i suppose I will just have to while the time away by doing some long flights. Happily it is still quite warm so walking the dogs is quite pleasant , one just has to get used to taking one step forward and 2 back with each gust.

Batten down the hatches then Nigel. Here in the UK we've had two weeks of WX allsorts, yesterday we had the most continuous heavy rain I've ever seen. Today calm and sunshine.

As you say you hope to do some long flights I hope the power lines stay intact.

Best of luck.

Today I picked up four trailerloads of windfall from the yard, some large enough to require a chain saw.  Then mowed the center-front.  Tonight I'm visiting a flight sim friend and fellow OFSC member to help him with some software problems, hopefully.  After returning I'll attempt to crank out at least two new airport diagrams, since I'm only two short of the 2,400 mark and would like to make that milestone tonight.

Yesterday I participated in my first bowling pin shoot.  Much more fun with a handgun than a bowling ball and I feel confident that if I'm ever attacked by a gang of bowling pins I can give a good accounting of myself.  The most challenging table was three pins at 20 yards.  It took four rounds to get them - one too many, but you're allowed 20 and some couldn't manage it.
