Okay, so it's not quite related to Flight Simulator X or even Flight Simulator 2004, but it is still technically a flight sim. It's Strike Fighter's 2 by Thirdwire. And here is my latest quick mission flying the MiG-19 Farmer field modified to carry 2 Atoll heat seeking missiles. My flight of four got called up to intercept some F-84 Thunderstreaks making an attack run on our airfield. I was quite succesful, if only by luck.

Some flight sim purists think its a bad thing to want to blow things up instead of learning the proper way to fly. I think it's a blast and has it's place.  Thanks for the view.

I started flying for the first time on my uncle's computer when I was just six years old. The game was Microsoft's Combat Ace. Flew all the time day in day out for as long as were were in Medford visiting. I eventually got my hands on a copy and played non-stop on the old machines my dad and I put together (we couldn't afford a proper desktop at the time.) From Combat Ace I went over to Combat Flight Simulator. Eventually I saw Microsoft Flight Simulator 2002 on the shelf and picked it up because I grew tired of being shot at all the time. I have since been playing regular civilian flight sims all the time, and have learned so much more about aviation than I ever would of if I stuck to the combat sims. But sometimes, it's fun to go shooting too.

I wish I could say I'm as good as you but whenever I try combat flight, I end up at the wrong end of any missiles going.

I'll leave it to those of you that can do it.

And thank you for watching! The only reason I had any semblance of efficiency in that video is because I have spent a lot of time on said wrong end of said missiles, lol.  This run was pure luck and I just happened to kind of look cool doing it which was a bonus. I recently started playing the free DCS World with it's included free SU-25T module (the SU-25T is like the Russian answer to the A-10C Thunderbolt "Warthog" ) and have been getting turned into a lawndart a whole bunch. I should upload a fail compilation of that!

 

Even when missiles aren't involved I do not always do well. I get taught a lesson or two flying a Spad XIII over France in this video:

Not sure what brought you down but it was a cool splash.   On the bright side you took one down and you can always swim to the shoreline.(that's if you can swim  ) Nice flying Ace.

LOL! Sadly, in real life, I cannot actually swim. As for what brought me down, I was shot up pretty good, and lost an aileron. It was very difficult to continue turning into that second German fighter, who favored doing head on boom and zoom passes. Every turn had to be done with the rudder pedals, which is why I almost went into a stall spin several times (the part where I give the trees a buzzcut is an example) and eventually on the final pass, despite the use of the rudder and one aileron, I could not bring the nose up again, and just happened to pancake straight into that pond.

Today is as good as any to learn how to swim. Just have someone throw you in the water, most times it comes to you naturally, other times it's good to do this near a lifeguard.

Kudos, I forgot to mention your impressive stall recovery, well the first one anyway.

Huh! They should have spent a little while where I used to work. After a few sessions with the boss (or, worse still, the xxxxxx customers) the urge to go and blow something up afterwards was pretty intense.

 

But instead I went and planned my next flight. Maybe I'm getting too old for all this.....

I'm gonna resurrect my own dead thread.

 

How's that for self service? Wait...gross....scratch that. 

 

Anyways...since I've started a new Air Hauler company in FSX away from Bowerman, I thought it'd be fitting to post the video I made back when I first converted my FSX to run in Direct X 10 preview mode after applying the necessary shader fixes. It was more of a test but I did my best to make it somewhat entertaining. I used Bowerman as the airfield to begin my test, and so I view this as a farewell to my old base.
