Netherthorpe to Isle of Wight (Bembridge) 8-4-2013

I have just noticed I appear to be standing on my toes in said photograph... Could this get any worse?????

Then you can just claim you had a pebble stuck under your heal that you were trying to wiggle in to a more comfortable position  ;)

Great pic's, glad you posted the end of the trip. Love the wing shot and scenery. :thum: I'm still look for those purple tree's that ORBX put in their England scenery. :P

I was wondering, in RW flying can you decide to do a touch and go at any airport along your planned route and does the airport charge you for it.

Purple trees? Maybe in Balamory or something similar!

I wouldn't put it past the airports to charge you for anything these days... Alot of them charge you for having to "turn on the ILS" if you make an ILS approach.

Although with a touch and go, a swift application of full throttle should see you escaping from said airport without a charge need to be paid ;)... Not strictly legal.

Jack - Thanks for that great photo essay.  Great job.  I've never flown in your area, but all those shots in the good ole 150 remind me of my distant flying past.  Hard to believe it's been that long, but those photos take on a nostalgic air in my eye.

Also good to see that you've already learned one thing about flying that I never really did:  Always carry your camera and don't forget to use it...

Thanks again!

Hi Dave and welcome to the site. :welcomeani:  I could not find your first post so am welcoming you here (my apologies Jack). I see you are a member of the prestigious Ocala Flight Sim Club and judging from your web site, which I enjoyed perusing, are a long time flight enthusiast. Am looking forward to any future posts that might include stories of early aviation if you feel so inclined. Glad to have you aboard. :)

Hi Dave,

Thanks very much for the kind words.

Speaking of nostalgia, I feel privileged to be able to fly these particular aircraft since everything (bar the GPS) is so 70s. The second you get in, that instant "70s oil smell" which any aviation enthusiast will have experienced when handling and/or dismantling any pressure instrument or cabin constructed in the 60s/70s. It's a privilege to be able to fly something that has been worked day in day out for 40 years; the fuselage creaks and cracks yet you know the airframe is sound, it's like a living, breathing thing.

Why is this "nostaliga" important? Being a "90s kid" as it were, you'd perhaps think I don't care about the 70s. My interest lies within the fact that all the cars we drive are built no later than the 90s, all the buses we ride in, even buildings that were built in the past have been upgraded to modern standards; my point being that everything moves on, but the Cessnas just seem to be stuck in the 70s, almost like a time relic, and don't seem to change.

Anyway, I do think about some strange things! Welcome to the Hangar.
