hurricanemk1c 195
Hi all After my recent screenshots, many people have told me to get better screenies you need to turn up/down your AA settings. The problem is, I don't know what AA settings are and where I find them. Can anyone help me?? And is this request in the right forum? Kieran
reef 3
Hey Kieran. AA or anti aliasing is a graphics card setting that keeps edges nice and smooth. The more AA the more smooth the edges will look. The down side is the more AA the less fps your going to get as it uses more graphics processing. So basically you need to find a balance between looking nice and game performance. There is an option within both FS9 and FSX but avoid it if you can leaving it off. To set the AA you will need to find your Graphics card control panel. For me with a nVidia card you can find it in your control panel. For other makes of card i don't know but should be similar. Within my nVidia control panel i can setup all my 3D game settings including AA. You will start to see alot of improvement at 8xAA setting if your PC can handle it. Hope this helps a little. steve

1mag1n3 0
Well, AA is what is used to get rid of jagged edges, as you know... You can either turn this on in your FSX settings or use your graphics driver to use AA.. I only know Nvidia settings, and i am not sure about ATI at all.. Reefs post below says the basics, any more just ask
simi_av8r 0
hi guys, i use an ATI card in my machine- an ATI 9600Pro 256mb actually (3 years old!!) and AA was a real problem... that was until i discovered the joys of Ray Adam's ATI Tray Tools. Its a God-send and really kicks my 9600 into touch. Not only does it really boost the AA and AF (anisotropic filtering) capabilities on the card it self - as opposed to software through FS9/FSX wasting frames and GPU power - but it also allows manual (as well as auto) over clocking for most ATI cards. I can most certainly say that without having OC'd my grapchis card, and upping the AA to 6x and AF to 16x, i'd never get anything near the quality i've posted here!! nVidia is a total different kettle of fish, and i've never touched an nVidia card since my last battle with a GF4200Ti !! paper-zout 0
Thanks for the info, i downloaded it and it kinda made a difference in FS. But are there any settings or options??
simi_av8r 0
Thanks for the info, i downloaded it and it kinda made a difference in FS. But are there any settings or options?? Hi PZ, glad to see it made an improvement just by installing it. There are plenty of options and settings, but no real 'user guide' to making the most of it. There is, however, a comprehensive set of details about what each and every setting does here and the best way to get acquainted with Ati Tray Tools is to have a play with some of the settings and see what's best for your set up - you'll get access to them with a right click on the red diamond icon in your start bar's tray near the clock. i find that the only settings i needed to change most were under the '3D', '3D Profiles', 'Hardware' and 'Tweaks' and if you want to overclock your graphics card then the settings for that are also within the 'Hardware' menu item, but don't over do it and fry your card!! have fun dude! simi_av8r 0
Wow, thanks alot. i got it now its amazing. the only thing is that at points the display looks weird in FS. I agree with keiran above, if you can get us a before and after screenie from FS with and without ATT installed, then it'll really give us an insight as to the power of hardware settings over and above those set by the software.... also, when you say ....... at points the display looks weird in FS. how do you mean? A screenshot of this would also be the best way to determine what's going wrong...it'll most certainly be something to do with a setting in ATT, but what is another matter.looking forward to the screens!
