DIY Airport Plates

Recommended Posts

I'll see what I can do with it. That's a "busy" one. I did one other where I had to put all the text information on a second sheet and may have to do that.

John

EDIT: It's coming up with no buildings showing - first time I've seen that in ADE9X. I suspect this is one of those "photo realistic" stock airports included in FS and doesn't have the buildings in the bgl. Anyway, I'll pursue it.

Hi M8,

Don't panic about it too much, don't spend loads of time on it as I can make do without, or try and work out how to do what you have done in FSX...

I am working on trying to visit the TOP TEN busiest airports at some point and this is one of them which is a massive airport, already been there a few times. I will probably buy the Mega Airport version at somepoint in the future.

Anyway as I said, don't panic too much...

OK, LFPG is posted - two plates, one for the normal diagram (which contains an abnormal amount of text) and another for the taxiway labels - YIKES. Now I know what happened to the guy who designed the Maginot Line - he's locked in a rubber-room, designing taxiway layouts at LFPG. I recognize the work.

I don't think I know of another airport with two VOR/DMEs on the field, seven Ground Control frequencies, four NDBs on the approach paths and enough taxiways, that if laid end to end would reach to all of France's former colonies, and back again.

John

EDIT: Looking at that airport again, why would they need two ATIS frequencies? That's madness - or Gallic one-upmanship.

Don't be shy about asking for more. I try to do about ten a week and if there are requests it saves me the trouble of deciding which ones to do. As my dad might have said, it keeps me off the streets at night.

Hi John,

I think most of the Airports I go to are now up there, but if I start frequenting any that you have missed, I will be sure to post as these are useful and gratefully received.

Many Thanks

Phil

Hi John,

Okay you said don't be shy :welcomeani: , so I have a little project for you if it is possible.

As you may be aware UK2000 scenery has more detailed airports for sale and have two FREE demo downloads for people wanting to try them out, anyway I have downloaded both of these and am using them as my initial bases in Air Hauler and hope to buy the full versions later on. http://www.uk2000scenery.com/vfrairfields/index.html

It would be great if you can do the plates for these, don't worry too much though as there are a few, I have put the links to the demo downloads as well if anyone wants them.

Volume 1 Demo : http://www.uk2000scenery.net/files/vfrairfields-vol1demo.zip

EGHI - Southampton (ALREADY DONE)

EGLD - Denham (ALREADY DONE)

EGLS - Old Sarom

EGBP - Kemble

EGLA - Bodmin

EGVP - Middle Wallop

EGDP - Portland

Volume 2 Demo http://www.uk2000scenery.net/files/vfr2_demo.zip

EG20 - Audley End

EG2J - Old Warden

EGOS - Shawbury

EGBN - Nottingham

EGMJ - Little Gransden

EGBW - Wellesbourne

EGCW - Welshpool

EGSA - Shipdham

You said don't be shy

I usually upload about 16 in a batch and already have twelve stockpiled and ready to go. I'll do four more from your list, then upload a batch and see how it goes.

I'm trying to keep this to stock airports only, in order for this to be useful for the most people, so don't want to start branching off into add-on airports, even from free demos. Having said that, for the purposes of airport diagrams it's unlikely there will be much difference. Add-on airports vary mostly in terms of buildings and other static objects, so the stock FS airport should still provide a useful diagram in most cases.

Also I don't do diagrams of single runway airports with no taxiways, aprons, buildings, etc. Any that look like that I just pass by. To the extent that any you listed are like that I won't bother. Let me have a run at the first four and we'll see what comes out the other end.

Thanks for the suggestions - looks like fun.

John

EDIT:

EGLS, EGDP, EGCW, EGSA are single-runways with no apron, taxiway, etc, so aren't worth doing. EG20 doesn't exist in stock FS. All the rest are sufficiently complex to do, so I'm off and running.

No worries, I look forward to seeing them, and the others you are doing, I'll check them every week, going to print the ones I need and put them in a file for reference...

Sixteen new airports are posted, including the seven for the Greek Odyssey Adventure at the Mutley Field forum. As always, requests are welcome... let me know what you need. I think we're right at 350 diagrams posted now.

You have way too much spare time :thum:

Perhaps you could do individual countries in Europe then add them as ZIP archives...?

I know I have found them useful, what about everyone else?

Doing them by country is way too large a bite. On average I do about one a day and there are around 24,000 airports in FS9 - more in FSX. I'm not going to live long enough to do all of them but am willing to do requests.

Eighteen more added, 10 US (including Key West Intl, Hilton Head Island and G Bush Intl in Houston), 7 UK, including London City and Farnborough and 1 in France).

If my counting is right this makes 367 airports now...

Sixteen new airport diagrams posted, included six in the UK (Woodford, Swansea, Bristol, Plymouth, Southend, Hawarden) and one in Puerto Rico (San Juan - TJIG). Also Providenciales in the Turks and Caicos has been updated. Total is now 383 airport diagrams posted.

Requests still welcome.

Twenty more airports are posted, including two that have two plates (KDAY and KMDW - Dayton and Midway). Those are just too "busy" to include all the text on the plate with the diagram. I make the total number of airports available now at 452.

Also, EGPP (Liverpool) is updated in this upload. I've pretty much exhausted all the UK airports but continue to try to add European fields in similar numbers to the US ones I add. I'm noting that some of my early efforts were pretty lame and will try to upgrade a few of the most heinous ones and add them with each batch of new ones.

As always, requests for specific airports are welcome.

John
