brett 2,314
Are you talking about the Class C airspace over Nowra Airbase? Aren't we allowed to fly through it at above the post altitude. I am not totally sure but I think if a leg takes you through Class A airspace, Andrew would take it into account. Good luck on your first flight team mate.
allardjd 1,853
Not sure what Andrew intended for this, but if, as Brett suggests, the airspace has a floor or a ceiling that's within the operating parameters of the Gooney Bird, you could legally go over or under while VFR. The other option is to squawk 7600 and turn off the COM radios, simulating a loss of communications, Keep Calm and Carry On. What ATC doesn't know doesn't hurt them. The 7600 squawk makes it their job to keep traffic out of your way - they won't, but they should. John
mutley 4,497
Dear March & Brett, Detailed navigation instructions are provided in the Event and Flight Briefing documents, we do not worry about airspace restrictions and other traffic etc. I bow to Andrew's intervention if I have this wrong but we do run a similar event! (MEBAR) Cheers, Joe
mutley 4,497
@ Dai, Thanks for the posting dates, I am happy to post in order of flights, it makes sense, dunnit?! Joe
ddavid 149
@ March - just use Andrew's Cloak of Invisibility, available for download from the Bluegrass website. @ Joe - Thanks. Cheers - Dai.
Quickmarch 488
Done! I'll fly it tomorrow or Friday (here) depending on schedule. Meanwhile trying to work out whether or not it's going to pay to buy some more ORBX scenery (pay attention, Dean). I did another blast around the area, just checking the lay of the land you know. It is pretty boring in the stock scenery and the airports are devilishly difficult to see. This is something I've noticed in the simulations anyway. It's much easier to spot an airfield in the RW than it is in a sim. I put it down to the poor field of view on a single monitor. These outback Ozzie airfields are mostly brown on brown. brett 2,314
If it helps, this is what it looks like in my FSX, for your first two airports. I have FTXGlobal, ORBX AU4, and with Micke's suggestion I just added OZx AU Complete + OZx Libraries and An'ts Aussie Airports on a less than great laptop. Above Wollongang On the ground at Polo Flats It helped having the extra scenery for me John because I like Australia but soon got bored with the default stuff.
ddavid 149
... I like Australia but soon got bored with the default stuff. That's what makes the GAAR exciting - it's a lottery finding anything! Cheers - Dai.
Quickmarch 488
Well I found YPFT. Took a bunch of screenshots on the trip. Looks like the NDB is going to be king of the hill, especially with the less than adequate VOR capability in the stock aircraft panel. That dual needle RMI really leaves a lot to be desired. Thanks for the advice Dai, JA for the funniest (I think that's the feds at my front door), and Brett for the screenshots. I ordered ORBX Australia - the whole thing. Unfortunately at my rate of download (<100KB/s) the 4G file is going to take longer than the whole GAAR. I've got 68% of it and it's been working at it overnight. @Joe, you can post now. I've put Leg 1 in the bank.
ddavid 149
March - you get to post your Leg 1 Flight Time and any screenshots before Joe can post his - is that O.K.? Thanks. Cheers - Dai.
allardjd 1,853
@ March, RE: Downloading - If that's the case, don't try P3D - 10.5 GB download. If you haven't tried Free Download Manager, you should consider it. It opens multiple simultaneous download streams which speeds things up greatly if the download site is throttling throughput - many do. If your end is the narrow neck of the bottle, it doesn't help quite so much but FDM does provide "resume support" if your session gets interrupted so you don't have to start at ground zero each time. Great little program. John
Quickmarch 488
Thanks JA, That's the software I'm using (based on your recommendation from a long way back). Believe me the bottleneck is not at their end. I can use my broadband (cell phone) connection at $10/GB or suffer the freebie, the local fishermen's network, at <100Kb/s. Guess what I'm using - The only trouble with Free Download Manager is that it won't let me change servers (cell phone vs freebie). It insists on using the connection it started with. I'm at 97% of the d/l now and the fishermen are using all the bandwidth downloading movies (it's Thursday night). AHHH! The pleasures of living off the grid.
Quickmarch 488
Ok. 48 hour d/l is over and done. I now have FTX AU so this should now be interesting as well as fun. I won't be going into the painful details, but suffice to say that I should not get involved in this level of d/l in my current loation. Question: Am I supposed to be posting a PIREP (a la MH ATWC)? Here? Somewhere else? It would be fun to do the leg again, using the FTX scenery and see if I can duplicate the screenshots to demonstrate the difference.
mutley 4,497
Hi March, Just post your time/PIREP here as soon as you can, what is most important is that Dai can post your flight time over at GAAR before the deadline! Cheers, Joe
ddavid 149
March - the Leg 1 Flight Time is what I need to send in to Andrew as our Team-Mutley PIREP. The Flight Time can be minutes and seconds or minutes to 2 decimal places. Thanks. Cheers - Dai.
Quickmarch 488
Oh Oh, I may have messed up. Bad Dog! I already sent a message (per the instructions) to (gaardirector........etc) with the subject line 01 049 133.55 Sorry Dai, I may have jumped the gun. Can you check with Andrew?
brett 2,314
I know we need to give our flight times in here to the Team Captain but as March asked, are we allowed to post a few shots of the leg in this thread?
ddavid 149
In the past we've posted Team-Mutly Leg Flight Times here before sending the PIREP to Andrew. This gives us the opportunity to post screen shots as well, so the other team members can see how the leg went. It doesn't really matter that you sent the Flight Time in, March. Maybe you can post some screen shots too? Thanks. Cheers - Dai.
mutley 4,497
I hope I am ok to post now, the time is in the final shot, as I had a bit of time before I needed to post I thought I would submit my flight as a picture story! Cheers, Joe
ddavid 149
Thanks, Joe - I'll send the Total Time of 153.81 in to Andrew. And Thanks for the screen shots - I haven't completed this leg yet - now I am forewarned! Cheers - Dai.
mutley 4,497
It was great to see your guest appearance this morning Dai! How you got into that field with a Dizzie amazes me! Cheers, Joe
ddavid 149
579 meters - bags of room! Sorry I couldn't stay with you - as usual, a 'flying visit'! Cheers - Dai.
mutley 4,497
I know Dai, I did try to contact you via Skype but knew your appearance would just be a fleeting one. It is really nice to have you drop in though
brett 2,314
Nice flying Boss.
mutley 4,497
Thanks Brett, it was a particularly un-stressful flight until I got to the final destination and I had to kill some time in a very, very slow circuit!
