rosariomanzo 545
After a nice morning spent with Richard at the Avalon F1 motion simulator, adrenalin is sure high! Luckily, I didn't forget to take the baton. Richard told me that a local girl he knew some days before, needed to get to Adelaide to join her boyfriend. "You'll like her, believe me", he said. I thanked Richard and payed the F1 Motion Simulator for both using the boss' credit card. Really not so happy, I like to fly alone and not with a girl who I'm sure will do nothing but talk during the whole trip! Anyway, staying in the taxi to the airport, I thought how nice it would be to ride something sleek and fast to reach Adelaide in a stilish way. "I hope the boss will let me choose what I'm thinking about". The ride in the red Ferrari made my fantasy fly! I entered the airport hall with my bag, carrying the baton and some baba cake (I can't live without, you know). Next, I reached the crew office and gave a look at the flightplan. We will fly IFR, the route will be simple: ML H345 DRINA We'll fly at FL120. While checking the weather charts, somebody tapped gently on my shoulder. "Mr Manzo?" "Yes, you shoud be miss..." "Adelaide! And I will fly with you to Adelaide! Funny, isn't it?" Oh no! She has got some sense of humour, too! "Ok Adelaide, nice to meet you. I have some work to do, so take your luggage and let's go." I've been lucky enough, her luggage is not so big as I expected. An airport employee came to us: "Welcome to Avalon Mr. Manzo, the aircraft is waiting for you at hangar number 7, follow me, please." "Wow, that's what I was thinking about! Sleek, fast and stilish." "Cool!", said Adelaide. "I've flown this one a lot." "Are you a pilot? That's great! But remember: today I'll fly the plane!" "Ok mate!" Ah, that smile! Richard forgot to tell me how fine and elegant Adelaide is. Time to check and set the aircraft for the flight. Adelaide has her headset on. "AvalonTower, good day, Alpha Tango Whiskey Charlie Five is at hangar number 7, flightplan as filed, destination Adelaide, two souls on board, ready to copy clearance." Ah, that voice! "ATWC5, AvalonTower, roger. You are cleared to Adelaide as filed via Justy One departure, runway 18, initial climb 6.000', squawk 2000. Report ready to taxi." Ah, again, that voice! I thought while listening to her readback. Engine is started and we are cleared to taxi to runway 18. "Avalon Tower, ATWC5 is ready for departure" "ATWC5, Avalon Tower, roger. Wind calm, cleared for takeoff." A brief check to the instruments while Adelaide reads the before takoff checklist. And up we go, not the best weather indeed. Departure clears us to FL120 while performing the standard departure procedure. Almost above the clouds Passing ML VOR, we are now enroute: At cruise altitude, we can relax a bit and eat some baba cake together. "Please don't let the rhum flow out!" Let's check the weather at Adelaide. Some nasty wind, CAVOK and a hot 33°C temp. Not bad! We are expecting runway 05 for landing. A nice occasion for a romantic approach from the sea. Starting our descent to destination. Approach has assigned us the DRINA 4A arrival, runway 05. Over the city, what a nice sight! "Adelaide Tower, ATWC5 is on final." "ATWC5, Adelaide Tower, roger. Wind from 140 at 16 kts, runway 05, cleared to land." "Your plane!" "My plane!" I think she expected this. She smiled at me and concentrated on taking the aircraft down. And, despite the nasty crosswind, what a smooth landing it was! What a pity, flight has already ended! Adelaide boyfriend was there, on the apron. "It's been a nice flight, I hope to see you soon. Ciao!" And then disappeared. I'll wait for Remington Box here. You'll find me at the lounge, as always! See you there!
mutley 4,497
Oh yes! I warned the guys at Avalon that the Italian Stallion was on his way and to get the crowd barriers up. Superbly narrated and illustrated as always Ros, a true true veteran of the Challenge Ciao! Jie

stu7708 244
Another top notch PIREP from you Ros! And a very sleek looking plane indeed. My inital thoughts were "it looks like a Lanceair Legacy but the main gear look wrong"... So, thanks to google I now know it was indeed a LanceAir, but a IVP rather than a Legacy. May I ask where you got the model of it from?? Now, enjoy your stay down under, and don't eat to much Baba Cake
