britfrog 180
Chris, (MYPC8mybrain) brought to my attentiaon this morning that shadow play may be better than FRAPS. I had tried shadow play a couple of months ago and it did not work, caused loads of grief and nvidia pulled it. However if you have a fairly decent GPU (650 and above ) the new shadow play finally works. you will need to download the latest nvidia experience which wont recognise fsx as a game, and the latset drivers but that is not a problem , set the parameters hit the shadow play button and set it to work manually using alt-F9 to turn it on and off it saves the files in my videos directory as MP4 files, however there is no doubt that the recording is far uperior to FRAPS as you do not get the frame rate reduction, it plays a video just as well as watching the real thing. The only small bug bear is that you need to fly FSX in full screen mode , I have only made a few short recordings so far but 3 minutes of video is 1.1 gb in size and you need to get fsx up and running before starting shadow play, I heartily recommend it, thanks again Chris! mutley 4,498
Sounds good BF. FRAPS is really annoying at times!
phil white 274
I have heard of this program but never really took much notice of it so I think I will give it a try as FRAPS is a frame killer for FSX as you say. FRAPS does not seem to affect X-Plane in the same way and only drops about 5fps when recording.
Quickmarch 488
Can anyone comment on using Shadow Play with other than a NVIDIA card? My new computer has an AMD Radeon R7 200 Series (low profile) video card. Maybe they're all NVIDIA, but I don't know that. Before I lay out $37 on the FRAPS software, I'd like to try at least one other option. EDIT - Oops! I found the reference to Shadowplay in one of Nigel's post and answered my own question. Appears to be proprietary.
MyPC8MyBrain 273
unfortunately this is a proprietary software designed to take advantage of NVidia designated onboard chip for offloading recording from the main chip
