Folks are in love with Lidia

Recommended Posts

A pretty impressive feat these folks pulled off. :hat:  The love of aviation knows no bounds when it comes to the rescue of their crashed C-47, check it out.

As you were; converted C-47 ;)

The conversion cost from a DC-3 to a Basler BT-67 is about $7 to $7.5 million.  It would be interesting to know the total cost of repair for this recovery.  Though, given the unique load carrying / cost effective capabilities of the BT-67 on skis, I really don't think it's an issue.

Great video, Brett.

Cheers

At that price I can see why they would want to recover it. Looks like the company people did the work, they had the other aircraft to ferry them and I am sure they wanted their baby back(especially if they owed money on it). Lidia is a girls name, maybe sentiment had a part. It sat for a year, I think it said in the vid, so they had time to figure it out and get what they needed. If the work couldn't be accomplished I would think they would then strip the plane for parts.

One thought I had for recovery, was the fact that this is a spot they use often for their sightseeing tours, best not to let the passengers see what happened to the last plane that landed there. :D

Cost, not sure about that part of it. A guesstimate would be around 100-200 hundred thousand, parts, fuel and labor. Not sure how bad the engines were damaged.

I think at one point in the video a figure of $5,000 dollars a day was mentioned. But I doubt that included that cost of parts, resourcing parts and the cost of shipping stuff out to the crash site.
