britfrog 180
I have been a beta tester for m.s. since the much maligned vista and have recently been told that m.s. have removed my muzzle so can now tell you about win10 I have been working with it for 4 months now and it is certainly better than win8/8.1 . I am not a fan of the "metro interface" but win 10 has certainly taken a step in the right direction and despite our pessimism it does seem that m.s. are taking our opinions on board. Time will tell! whilst they are still trying to separate the games side from the work side as apps from one side wont work with the other side the people in power seem to be getting a better handle on things rather than being haphazard like win 8 does it work with fsim? up till now I have not been allowed to try it as development has been in other directions but maybe I will give it a go when i get a new update. watch this space----
allardjd 1,853
MS seems to get every other version of Windows right. XP and Win7 were outstanding, ME, Vista and Win8 were pretty much hated by the customers. The next one (Win10? What happened to Win9?) should be another winner. John
MyPC8MyBrain 273
very content with my leap from XP to win8.
Andrew Godden 943
Which reminds me...I must sign myself up to the Microsoft Insider Program and become a self appointed beta tester. Then I can add it to my resume to impress. No...on second thoughts, I don't need to.
britfrog 180
I agree John, I am very happy with win7 but sadly it will be replaced in time .
PCAviator 30
Maybe 10 sounds more enticing than 9? I mean, 9/10 doesn't look as good as 10/10 right? Lets hope Windows 10 does score close to a 10 in ratings!
MyPC8MyBrain 273
last time they tried to use the name as leverage to increase sales; we got subpar Millennium (ME) release
Christopher Low 63
I can only assume that Windows 9 and Windows 10 were two separate development threads, and they decided that Windows 10 was the better option (due possibly to quicker than expected progress). Of course, it could just be a daft marketing decision by someone who hates the number "9".
MyPC8MyBrain 273
or someone who thinks the number 10 provides a better hype this behavior for most professionals is seems as disloyalty abandoning releases in less than a year doesn’t build confidence!
ddavid 149
Looks like Microsoft are taking a leaf out of IBM's book: http://blogs.windows.com/business/2014/09/30/introducing-windows-10-for-business/ Ten is set to be the corporate software support department's dream come true - or nightmare! Maybe "The IT Crowd" TV series was written with Ten in mind... Cheers - Dai.
Tim_A 997
Maybe they're trying to compete with the Mac - Windows 10 vs OSX (pronounced O S 10)...

J G 927
I can only assume that Windows 9 and Windows 10 were two separate development threads, and they decided that Windows 10 was the better option (due possibly to quicker than expected progress). Of course, it could just be a daft marketing decision by someone who hates the number "9". I think that the name Windows 10 has been used as Microsoft know it will be a pile of crap. My basis for this theory is up until now every other version of windows has proved to be no good. For example; Windows XP - Good Windows Vista - Bad Windows 7 - Good Windows 8 - Bad It therefore follows that a projection of this trend is:- Windows 9 - Good Windows 10 - Bad. Therefore if MS know that the version of windows in the pipeline is crap they will jump a version as a subtle warning of the disappointment to come. I also have a theory that dinosaurs are thin at one end, thick in the middle and thin at the other end. (how good is your Monty Python knowledge?)
