Steam Chat Spreading Dangerous Malware

Any one remember waiting 30 mins. for a game to load on a Spectrum? - and having it crash in the first min. of play?

Most definitely.. Deep joy!

Or worse still... the tape cassette getting all gnarled up in the player...

You'll remember this little Psion number I'm sure: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EsbRAV-CSCQ

The light show used to give me a headache!

I'm just about to jump into it, 1984 version was my first game on my C64 !  I have already watched hours of videos since the beta.  Will be in the stars next week !  :)

I'm sure you'll enjoy it. There's only two issues for me, and not serious ones.

The antialiasing on the stations could be better. It's something some seem to be having an issue with and not others. It's not a show stopper at all though.

The other issue is that the AI, namely the Federal Security Services, have a habit of veering into your line of fire. Thus, a slight tickle on their shields from your pulse lasers and you end up with a wanted status. It's not a huge deal, just means you have to nip to a station and pay a fine. Although on occasions, if you are scanned you can be blasted into smithereens. I gather Frontier are looking into it though, so should be fixed soon.

All in all, a VERY addictive game.

From what I understand, the game has been released in December for Christmas sales and also because the date related to the original, but the development will continue for some time.

What we have now is the "base game" and the good things are down the road ( I read they would release early 2015 the Wings function so you can fly together with other people  ( although I am more myself on "the lonesome cowboy - mind my own business" type of play...)  Probably will rather soon leave the populated spots to go explore the universe as soon as I can have a ship with the necessary equipment.  May be I will find the Thargoïds ? :)

It's the same with FSX, I like to go fly in places I don't know...

Yep, there's lost to come. Eventually we will have planetary landings and the capability to walk around the larger ships.

I should add, that Star Citizen will have such things upon release I believe, even includes a first person shooter type aspect. This guy seems to do it all. Will be released later this year.

If I refer to past experiences with Chris Roberts ( Freelancer for instance ) I wouldn't bet on a 2015 release !  ;)

I've seen quite a few videos on Star Citizen as well, but although I find interesting to be able to walk out of ships and visit the stations, I'm not too crazy about the FPS part.

I didn't think you'd be too crazy about the FPS aspect, but I suspect there will be more to it than that. Various activities that can be performed from a first person perspective let's say. E:D has that planned too, guess we will have to see who gets there first.

I have got Elite:Dangerous also. Excellent space flight sim and endless possibilities. I have mastered entering and landing in stations/outposts etc and flying the ship with my X52 Pro is outstanding. I used to play Elite back in the day and Elite 2. I loved those games, as well as Star Raider which I used to play on an Atari 65XE which was a re-badged 800XL! Those were the days when we only dreamed about graphics like Elite Dangerous!! :D

Ha ha, I remember loading screens like that. I have emulators for those old games now and they load in milliseconds!! :)

How many credits do you have Adrian? And which star system are you based? Trading? Bounty hunter? Explorer?

I don't have that many credits at the mo, I've spent quite a bit on my Eagle, armour, power plant weapons etc.

I only got it on Boxing Day, however I got a little side line going in trade. Unfortunately I flew too close to a star in the Yakabugai system after exiting a hyperspace jump and blew my ship up so I am now back at 1000 credits and a new ship! :( That is the system where I am mainly based due to the presence of a black market to shift my "collected" space junk I pick up with the cargo scoop whilst out exploring.

I am mainly trading and exploring at the moment until I can afford a better ship that I can kit out with more than just those crappy pulse lasers you get on a Sidewinder.

The trick is to make sure your funds never drop below your ships buy back amount, so you don't get stuck in a freebie Sidewinder. At the moment I've been ploughing most of my credits back into my Eagle. Upgraded shields, power plant, power delivery armour etc. So my funds were low as well. However, last night I found a great nav beacon replete with wanted ships. Managed to make 160,000 credits with just a few runs to the beacon, so now up to 260,000. Hoping to be up to 450,000 after today.

Not sure if I'll upgrade to a Viper and carry on bounty hunting to make dosh, or if I'll buy a Cobra and start doing some trading in rare's. I have a good route in mind, from suggestions on the FD forum, where it's possible to make millions apparently.

I'm based at Aulin Enterprises at the moment. My Sidewinder is many light-years away though, so can't really sell it off to raise funds. Hopefully FD will implement the ship delivery system they spoke about, so we can have our ships delivered without having to trek across the galaxy.

P.S Watch out for those crazy Feds. There seems to be a bug at the moment. Once you've dispatched all the bad guys at the nav beacons, the bonkers AI decides to turn on you. Had to run like hell last night, back to base to cash in my credits.

If you head to somewhere like Aulin Enterprise and then to the nearest nav beacon, there are lots of bad guys to take out. Plenty of easy to kill Sidewinders, Eagles etc. You can rake up some dosh pretty quickly. Nip back to Aulin Enterprise when you've got a few kills and claim the bounties. I don't play that long myself, as I can't sit down too long due to a back injury. Had trouble making much dosh at all untill I found this location.

Don't take on any wanted Pythons or Anacondas though, or you won't last five seconds. The only way I've taken out a Python is by waiting till others have depleted the shields and then nipping in and stealing the kill.

Cheers for the heads up, I'll pay a visit there when I'm in the vicinity. Just managed to complete 1 mission tonight collecting a single black box which netted me over Cr. 12000. I'm getting there slowly. I'm saving for a better ship and I can then get rid of my Sidewinder for good!

I was lucky in that I pre ordered the mercenary edition, so got a free Eagle. Hanging around the nav beacons for wanted ships is the quickest way to make some credits initially. Collecting black boxes and other missions is very slow.

Nice, might see you in the galaxy, Commanders !  I plan to play mostly with the PvE Mobius group, I prefer coop play to PvP.

I have joined the group today. Look forward to seeing you out there. Give me a hail if you pass by!!

Very interesting........AH with teeth!

I downloaded the iPad version of the advertising while sitting in a motel in San Diego. Looks like fun. I'll have to wait until I get back to Canada to try it out. I've got a new high-speed landline run into the boat at the marina where I'm staying now, so this is not an impossibility.

Is this only available through Steam? Besides this MH thread, I've heard a bunch of bad things about the company and not a single good word - I'll be wary if it is a Steam-exclusive product.

There's nothing wrong with Steam.

My son and I were dubious, many years ago, think it was when Half Life was released. But these days, Steam Uplay, Origin are actually very good. All software nicely patched, no need to trawl around the internet trying to find updates, and install them in the right order.

Elite Dangerous is directly from the developer, here...

It is a bit like a space AH, but be prepared to defend yourself if needed. You can go out actively bounty hunting and pirating or just picking fights if that's what you want but that's the point, you can do anything you want.  :D. This sim is not at all steam based, it uses its own launcher software which auto patches when updates are released, contains links to training videos and manuals and lots of other good stuff!
