MartinW 0
6 degree glideslope, 60 knots. Nice safe low speed landing, nothing dramatic, no wires, simplicity itself. No wear and tear on the deck. Less fuel, more weight. Far safer than a cats and traps landing, and safer and faster than a vertical landing. Looks good to me. I reckon there will rarely be any vertical landings. MartinW 0
Well I'm sure you're not happy with the mere simulation above, so how about the F35B at the Miramar airshow. Amazing control, rock steady, and a nice 100 knot rolling landing.
mutley 4,487
It looks really odd to me but hey, if it works! Thanks for sharing Mart.
Captain Coffee 2,030
It does look weird in landing config, but really pretty in flight. Love the cockpit nose area design, very bird-like.
MartinW 0
Guess it does look weird with the big lift engine door sticking up. Guess it was the simplest mechanical solution though. Some kind of sliding door mechanism would have been more complex and thus probably heavier.
Christopher Low 63
I like the VTOL capability of the F35B. Some people go on about reduced range and weapons load, but I just ignore them
MartinW 0
Me too Chris. Technically it's what you call COOL!
Captain Coffee 2,030
It's like we are technically at the point of making the sharpest knifes possible, so now to get a product "edge" we have to add "Spoon" capability to them.
