Second monitor

Recommended Posts

Recently I bought a second, and slightly larger monitor. I'd like to display Plan G's map on the smaller, older one whilst I'm viewing FSX on the larger one. I have them set up on 'Extended' view.

Any thoughts from the Oracles?

Many thanks.

That's what I've been doing every day for the last year, I use my IIyama 27" for FSX and my old 24" Acer for Plan G ( VFR flights) or FS Commander 9 (IFR flights). They are both plugged on my graphics card ( 1 HDMI and 1 DVI ) and used in desktop extended mode.

James,

When you open Plan-G on your main monitor, you should be able to just drag it across to your second monitor. Once you have done that, Plan-G will always open on that monitor.

Let us know if this is not working.

Good luck.

Also, for this to work, you can't be running FSX in fullscreen mode.

If you have no minimize/maximize/close buttons in the top right corner of your FSX screen all you need to do is press ALT+ENTER to go out of fullscreen mode, and than maximizing the FSX window.

Thank you, all.

Brian....I can drag the Plan G icon across to my secondary monitor but, sliding my pointer across there and clicking  'Open' results in the map appearing on my primary monitor.

   What to do?

My connections, with limited sockets, smaller monitor - from its VGA socket via a VGA/DVI adapter and into a DVA socket on my PC.

larger monitor - from its VGA socket to a VGA socket on my PC. .

The larger monitor is designated as my main display.

Any other info I can pass to you?

Hi James,

You need to open Plan-G on your main monitor then drag the open PG over to your second monitor.

You're almost there buddy.

Pay attention to what Micke has added also. This is important.

Cheers

Hmmm. Currently I'm awaiting replacement FSX discs as mine have been damaged. They are due soon.

Do I understand then that I have to have FSX running BEFORE opening up Plan G?

Right now, when I attempt to open up the latter, although it opened up earlier this afternoon, it won't do so now.

I'll re-boot everything up later this afternoon and try again. I shall return!

If PG looks like it's not running, it might be.

It may well be that it's minimised somewhere, so have a look on both monitors to see if you can see a small task at somewhere the drag it out to maximise it.

This has happened to me in the past, but once you have it setup where you want it, it will open there every time. Try not to maximise it to full screen. Set it so that it is slightly smaller than full screen and you shouldn't have that problem.

Keep us informed as to how you get on.

Cheers.

So...how can I get this map page to shrink a bit. All I have by way of a choice is either the very full screen or that 'mini-bar' like object that sits in the top corner of my screen an limits my choice to either Full Screen, shrunk down to the task bar or closed down. Neither is there any sign at all of those familiar arrows at the map's edge that would enable me to partially shrink it. I do have a picture of that 'mini-bar'  but I cannot find the means of attaching it to this message.

Shall I simply take to drink?

A second monitor is a great FS tool, for all kinds of things. I use TrackIR and it's helpful to put the radio stack on the second screen so I don't have to play mouse-pointer-archery by attempting to hold my head completely still while changing radio frequencies.
