New company at home

Recommended Posts

Now that we don't need to fiddle around with FTX Central anymore, I couldn't resist starting a new company in the region where I grew up, on top of the other one which keeps me busy between British Columbia and Alaska.

The company is based in Dinard Pleurtuit LFRD and is called Air Emeraude ( due to the green color of the sea, the region is known as the Emerald Coast ). Tonight is maiden flight for my Cessna 337 Skymaster  to take a load of Blu Ray players to Shoreham EGKA. Flight plan is IFR at 5000 ft due to the weather.

The weather is ugly tonight and it's raining cats and dogs on runway 35 in LFRD.

As I am nearing the first waypoint, Jersey VOR, it has cleared up and I can see the lights in Saint Helier being turned on.

Then as the sun goes down, I cross the Cotentin south of Cherbourg.

Crossing the Channel, you're never alone with the AI ships by Henrik.

There is some high traffic as I get close to the south coast of England. The ATC has already guided me out of the original flight plan to take me to runway 02 in EGKA.

Getting down to 2000 ft under the clouds I am right on track and can't miss it !

Finals viewed from the cockpit.

Now on the parking to hand over the goods to my first customer in the night.

A first easy job despite the weather at start. Now I only need to wish a good luck to the new business !

I'm so sorry Loic, my original post has been edited.:th_blush:

There is no excuse but my daughter fell the evening before and I had to take care of the grandkids in the hospital for many hours and it turned my body and brain to mush. :faint:

A rich british citizen has bought a few pricey pieces of furniture at a well known antique shop in Saint Malo  and wants them delivered asap near Dunkeswell EGTU. Who're you gonna call ? Air Emeraude of course !

We leave Dinard Pleurtuit LFRD  with a thick cloud cover but almost no wind.

 2016-06-2215_53_46-Greenshot.jpg

Getting out of the clouds around 6000ft, climbing to 7000 ft at 800 ft/mn.

2016-06-2216_02_12-Greenshot.jpg

Flying by west of Guernsey.

2016-06-2216_12_55-Greenshot.jpg

Almost "feet dry" over the english coast east of Exeter.

2016-06-2216_42_50-Greenshot.jpg

ATC sends me around north of the airfield to come back and land on runway 23 at EGTU. With 11 knots of wind from the south it will require some correction to land in the middle of the runway.

All went fine, only need to deliver and get the money ...

good question that Matt, I still have AH1 but not using it, I guess you shouldnt put all your eggs into AH2 as there may come an update that breaks it, we have had loads of them in the last couple of years....

I'm still with AH 1, for now I've looked from far away at AH 2, and I haven't decided yet what I'm going to do.  For one I never get in early access stuff, and usually wait at least a few months after official release.

On one side it looks like many things have been improved, on the other side there seem to be a lot of (for me) unnecessary and complex new features. Which means I will probably finish 2016 with AH 1 and wait for in-depth reviews and videos of the software once it will be stabilized.

Buzzzzzzzzzzz, delivered.:pilotic:  Nice PIREP Loic, hope you remembered your rubber ducky for that trip across the channel.^_^

Thks, I also remember the good number of times I made in real life the crossing on board of sailboats, either for holiday trips (to the Hamble River, the Scilly Islands or Cork/Kinsale ) or often for races ( like the Channel Race during the Cowes Week or Cowes - Dinard right after it ) ! :) It was when I was still young and handsome ... :whis:

I finally installed over the weekend FTX England and Wales ( Scotland and Ireland will come later ), and I must agree it looks better than my old GEX Europe (although I was used to it over the years...). Plus most airfields are nicely enhanced without noticeable fps drop !

As a comparison, I had a positioning flight from Dunkelswell EGTU to Shoreham EGKA where I will pick up stuff to fly back to my LFRD base.

Leaving EGTU

Until now in Europe I was mostly into night cargo flights so it was not urgent to update my scenery...  I have decided I would try to make more day flights now !

Even for evening departures it looks good too...

Departure tonight from Shoreham EGKA

Thks Wain. I'm trying to boost it up asap so I can lease a second airplane and hire an AI pilot to fly it. :)

The next move will be to open a second base somewhere on the southern coast of England to avoid the Channel crossings and have the first one deal with cargo inside France.

So to make faster deliveries and extend distances I leased a Cessna 406 Caravan II.  Now I need to fly it because it costs 60.000 $ monthly and I still cannot hire pilots.

First short flight across the Channel to get familiar with the beast between Dinard LFRD and Exeter EGTE 139 nm ( a little more with the approach ) The clean and nice looking bi-turboprop waits for me on the parking close to the terminal of the small airport.

2016-07-0515_03_48-Greenshot.jpg

12 knts of wind from NW and clouds at 2800 ft, plan is for an IFR flight at 7000 ft. Leaving Dinard Pleurtuit.

2016-07-0515_45_15-Greenshot.jpg

Well above the clouds I leave Guernsey behind me. Cruise speed with the cargo pod is around 185 knts.

2016-07-0516_05_08-Greenshot.jpg

After a 45 mns flight I reach the coast of England near Lyme Regis  and its cliffs, descending to 2200 ft.

2016-07-0516_28_48-Greenshot.jpg

ILS approach on runway 26 at Exeter International with 14 knts of wind from 320°, a greaser landing just above 100 ft/mn, short stop with the reverse and taxi to the parking.

2016-07-0516_52_30-Greenshot.jpg

Still four deliveries to go and I can hire a pilot and have both planes flying.
