Leg 24: Boeing Field (KBFI) -> Ted Stevens Intl' (PANC)

Recommended Posts

Welcome, welcome one and all to Leg 24 of Mutleys Hangar Around The World Challenge!!

On leg 24 we'll be departing from the venerable Boeing Field, Seattle and shall be taking the baton north of the border briefly into Canada, over Vancouver and onwards to our destination of Ted Stevens International in Anchorage, Alaska.

Today's transport will be the ever lovely Boeing 247 flown today on a real United Airlines route from the 1960's. No peanuts or alcohol today though folks, our trolley dolly has phoned in with a migraine - poor lass, must have been the late night out with our number one.... he seems to be missing also!

So, without further ado, here's our flight plan..

Well, there we have it. 37% fuel remaining from the full load taken on board in Seattle.

My unreserved apologies for the lack of landing shots, with my number one missing, I was pretending to be Dr. Octopus for the last few seconds there and let me tell ya, it's mighty cold up here so having my number one missing made this a real challenge bringing this bird to a halt on runway 14!

So, Mutley it's over to you and your chariot of the skies to take us, and the baton to Juneau Intl.

Folks, thanks for the attention, I hope you enjoyed every moment... thank you all and good night for now!

Simi,

Thanks for safely getting the baton to Alaska :mrhappy:

A fantastic set of shots as always. The departure shots in particular looked great with the moody weather.

And what a find with the aircraft too! that UA livery is definately one of the classics of the era.

Thanks for posting these Simi.

I'm on my way to Anchorage now to collect the baton should be there in about a day :eyebrow:

Chers

Thanks for the vote's of confidence fellas, much appreciated!

The weather in the early morning departure shots (i think we left at around 05:35) didn't just look moody. The turbulance at our filed cruise at 8000ft was a nightmare. So we requested Fl12 just after hanoff from KBFI departures. The turbulance deteriorated further after a few moments, so much so in fact that the airframe would have been snapped like a twig, so i filed again for an increase to FL150 and climbed again - much smoother!

There were points along the way at FL120 that we hit pockets of downdraught and actually lost 1200-1500 feet in a few seconds. With my number one missing, pulling it back up to our cruise altitude proved a handful!

Coming back to the aircraft this morning proved the ferrocity of the turbulance - the cleaning crew found a good number of barf bags under seats!

Just adding my thanks, Simi - loved the sun's reflection after dawn - and the snow, brrrrrr!! Sounds like you had the same problems as me - can't get the staff these days .... :mrhappy:

Cheers - Dai.
