Hell...I dived in. Helldiver.

Recommended Posts

Damn Jan...posted a very tempting set of lovely screens of this while I was drunk (that's my story, and i'm sticking to it).

That and the Aeroplane Heaven April Special deal for it's release which included a free Grumman F3F-2...yeah...What drunken sot could possibly pass that up?

So grab a beer or two, or whiskeys, and enjoy:

KCCR Concord, at hot bed of Classic Aircraft collectors and a good place to take a first flight from. Rumor (AeroHeaven marketing) claims that the Helldiver is a handful to fly...I am just a bit nervous, it is indeed a Very large single.

No problems on takeoff, helps that I remembered to lock the tailwheel prior...I actually read the manual for this one. ;)

Cleaned up and canopy closed.

The obligatory First Flight Bridge Dash:

After thrashing it about under several bridges, looping, rolling, and putting a few rockets on the wings using the Options Window...Time to attempt Landing #1 at Lampson near Lake Berryessa...Just east of Santa Rosa/Cloverdale/etc. The view over the nose proved to be the biggest challenge as it established a stable approach, and has plenty of power to adjust speed on the way in.

I bounced it once...this is just After touch down.

But the tough old bird just shrugged it off and we have taxi'd to the parking ramp and shut her down...a delightful first drunken flight in the Helldiver..hic.

And one shot of the freebie.

Haven't flown it yet as I was about to get my Type Rating for this on in Airhauler when FSX crashed on me.

It can wait...it should be fairly identical to the Gulfhawk of the same manufacture which I picked up some time ago.

This "Freebie" basically gives me a bunch more paints and some weaponized versions of the same model I already love.

Now is the month to do so Alan.

Thanks for comments folks.

And you are totally forgiven Jan...all resentment went away right after take off, and the next shot of vodka. :D But if you get a chance...I'd love to wrap a Dark Green and Gold themed Private Civilian N# paint (with a graphic of a Coffee Bean somewhere on it? /bows in supplication )...if you think of some cool scheme in those colors :)

This feels like a bird I'll be flying for a while...I'm thinking it's Short Approach capability thanks to it's very high Negative Vertical Speed thanks to it's Very Aggressive Up and Down Spoilers...could prove useful in AirHauler... :P
