Captain Coffee 2,030
A local crash a week or so ago. Condolences to the families. Seems that Icon lost a Chief Test Pilot and a new engineer while out on a familiarization flight. Details are sketchy still...but sounds like they might have flown into a box canyon situation?? http://napavalleyregister.com/news/local/ntsb-witness-saw-plane-rev-up-before-lake-berryessa-crash/article_a5c94329-ec10-55e1-8838-53afbcad045e.html More info on the aircraft, and description of the accident in wiki kind of reinforces the box canyon hypothesis: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/ICON_A5#Accidents_and_incidents
brett 2,310
Sad news indeed. I will be interested what the findings can tell us, this was not some low hour pilot. RIP
dodgy-alan 1,587
A real shame, I just hope the accident doesn't affect customer confidence. A similar scenario happened with the Edgley Optica and that just about finished them. A major fire did the rest.
Captain Coffee 2,030
Agreed Alan, regrettably as it sounds for the pilot... I am hoping they find it to be pilot error. It's a cool little aircraft and it's nice having some local aviation manufacturing in the area. This is apparently only the second Icon5 accident, a heavy water landing was the first and both pilots walked (Swam) away. I have seen one flying around the Napa area and thought it was a UFO at first...WFT is that?!...Oh...little floaty thing! Edited May 20, 2017 by Captain Coffee
